Elina Svitolina started a successful year by capturing the title at the Brisbane International and then reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and the third round of Roland Garros. Owing to her precise backhand hitting skills and a superb start to the season, she started Wimbledon as one of the predicted, probable winners.

But as odds would have it, Tatjana Maria of Germany and Svitolina battled a thrilling three-setter that favoured Maria and sent Svitolina packing home at a score of 6-7, 6-4, 1-6. Elina Svitolina crashing out of the tournament was an unpredictable one.
