WTA Barcelona - Romanians Halep and Cirstea score big wins

Romanian youngster Simona Halep scored a big upset in Barcelona beating the No.4 seed Roberta Vinci 6-1, 6-3 to move into the quarter finals of the WTA Barcelona Ladies Open..

“I played Roberta once before and she beat me, in Paris on hardcourts,” Halep commented. “I knew it would be a difficult match but I tried my best and am very happy how it went. The first match back on clay was tough for me this week, but I’ve improved day by day. I like it a lot here in Barcelona. I’m feeling great.”

Spaniard Carla Suárez Navarro scored a 6-2, 6-4 upset over No.6 seed Petra Cetkovska. Meanwhile, No.7 seed Sara Errani beat Estrella Cabeza Candela 6-0, 6-2.

Another Romanian, Sorana Cirstea won her first round match when her opponent Polola Hercog retired after losing the first set.
