WTA Budapest - Errani wins third title and French Open dark horse tag

The Italian to watch out for at the French Open later this month will not be Francesca Schiavone – but her compatriot Sara Errani.

The diminutive Italian won her 15th consecutive match on clay this year beating Russian Elena Vesnina in the Budapest Grand Prix final – her third straight WTA clay court title in 2012.

Vesnina is no 0-6 in WTA finals in her career as she fell 5-7, 4-6 in the final to Errani.

β€œElena was playing very strong today – my congratulations to her for that,” Errani told the press. β€œI had to run a lot and fight hard to keep up with her today.”

β€œI was playing very well at the beginning, but Sara is the kind of player who destroys your game and makes you feel uncomfortable on the court,” Vesnina commented. β€œI tried to play aggressively throughout the match but the slow court suited Sara’s game better than it did mine, and all credit to her for winning.”

Errani will move into the top 5 of the world rankings next week for the first time in her career.

She will have a tough ask if she hopes to continue her winning streak in the power packed Madrid draw. Errani is scheduled to meet in form world no. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska in the second round of the high profile event.
