Zheng will enter the year-end championships high on confidence, having completed a title-winning campaign at the Japan Open in Tokyo, where she defeated the likes of Moyuka Uchijima, Leylah Fernandez, Diana Shnaider, and Sofia Kenin.
Paolini comes into the eight-woman field after a run to the quarterfinals at the Wuhan Open. There, she overcame Yuan Yue and Erika Andreeva before going down to Zheng in the last-eight encounter.
This is notably the first time the two players have qualified for the WTA Finals.
