WTA Miami - Wozniacki surprises Serena to reach semi finals

There will not be any all-Williams final in Miami and surprisingly, it’s younger sister Serena who has exited the tournament first. The former world no. 1 was beaten on Tuesday by Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter finals of the Sony Ericsson Open. Older sister Venus will play her quarter final match on Wednesday.

Wozniacki used her strong retrieving skills to force errors from the 13 time Grand Slam champion and win in straight sets.

In the semi finals, Wozniacki will meet world no. 2 Maria Sharapova, who ended a four match losing streak to China’s Li Na.

Sharapova won 6-3, 6-0 in 68 minutes, winning the last eight games in a row.

“I came into this match losing to her the last few times. I really wanted to change that,” Sharapova commented. “I was really consistent today in conditions where it was a little gusty and blowing around, and I faced a tough opponent too. I did a good job of maintaining my consistency throughout the whole match.”

Sharapova is 3-2 lifetime against the Dane.
