The couple parted ways in 2020 after nearly a decade of marriage, sharing three sons – Noah Shannon, Bodhi Ransom, and Journey River. Speaking exclusively to E! News, Green emphasized the importance of prioritizing their children's well-being.

Green highlighted the inevitability of the separation affecting their children, stating

"People make a mistake of thinking that they're gonna do things so the separation doesn't affect the kids, and that's—of course, it's gonna affect the kids"

This candid revelation offers insights into the actor's commitment to navigating the complexities of post-divorce parenting.

Post the separation, Green focuses on the necessity of accepting the reasons behind the split and emphasizing solely co-parenting. Further in the interview he also emphasized the need to pick your battles as a parent. He remarked:

"So, you can't expect to then get along after the fact in raising your kids. So, you have to decide, ‘OK, it's not about us getting along anymore. It's about us co-parenting, which is a totally different situation."

"I think it's really important when people separate to never ever disparage the other parent or even in a passive aggressive way, make remarks."

Furthermore, she explained that she does not let anything in her energy when she is with her children, because if she doesn't accept and love their father, it is a rejection of a part of them since he's always a part of who they are.

According to People magazine, in October 2022, Brian Austin Green maintained his and his ex-wife's positive chemistry, characterizing their approach to E! News as going "really well." During the interview, he emphasized that they

"Don't fight over time with the kids... (and) try to alternate holidays between Christmas Day and Christmas Eve."
