The uncertainty surrounding Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has deepened, with a new update from Orlando Bloom confirming the film is still far from being finalized. During a June 5, 2025, appearance on ITV’s This Morning, Bloom stated he was unaware of any confirmed developments, implying that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 remains in early planning stages.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer previously stated a script is being written and could be completed within a month, but the project has yet to receive Disney’s approval. This comes amid long-standing production delays, legal complications involving Johnny Depp, and the uncertain direction of the franchise’s future.

Disney has two separate scripts in progress, one featuring Depp’s return as Jack Sparrow and another focused on a reboot with a new cast. Additionally, a spinoff led by Margot Robbie is still under consideration. With no production start in sight, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is unlikely to release before 2027, leaving its return to theatres delayed indefinitely.

The prolonged delay of Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has once again come under discussion following Orlando Bloom’s recent comments during his appearance on June 5, 2025 ITV’s This Morning. According to Bloom, there has been no official movement regarding production, and the creative direction of the film remains undecided.

“I can’t say anything at the moment, because I really don’t know. I think they’re trying to work out what it would all look like," he said.

Bloom also stated he’d welcome the chance to return with the original cast, though the project’s current state appears far from active development.

In a separate update, franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that a script for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is in the process of being written. As per ComicBook.com's interview with him in their report dated June 24, 2024, Bruckheimer said,

“Hopefully it’ll come in in a month or so, and it’ll be as good as I think it will be. So let’s hope that Disney likes it and they give us an opportunity to make it.”

This suggests that, despite the years of speculation, Disney has yet to greenlight any version of the film. The schedule remains unclear since production has not yet officially begun. Multiple sources indicate that if filming were to begin soon, the earliest possible release date for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 would be sometime in 2027.

The production has faced numerous delays, including those related to Johnny Depp’s legal dispute and the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike. Reports have also pointed to the existence of two scripts, one featuring Depp’s Jack Sparrow and another without him, neither of which has moved forward into production.

Additional Pirates projects are still in development

In parallel to Pirates of the Caribbean 6, Disney is continuing to explore other projects in the franchise. A female-led spinoff featuring Margot Robbie was previously shelved but has since re-entered consideration. A third project involving a younger cast is also in early stages, further fragmenting the franchise’s path forward.

Despite the interest from Orlando Bloom and the foundational success of the earlier instalments, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 remains without a set release window. While Bruckheimer’s update offers a small sign of progress, the lack of a finalized script and Disney’s hesitation signal that the film is still years away.
