Britney Spears and Wade Robson relationship explored as singer gets backlash for backing Michael Jackson accuser

American singer Britney Spears recently showed support for a video of her ex-partner and longtime choreographer, Wade Robson. He had posted about his struggles with trauma after accusing Michael Jackson of alleged abuse.

The 42-year-old received a lot of backlash for her since-deleted Instagram post on Friday, May 24, 2024. She wrote:

"I probably don't talk to him as much but I wanted to share this because it genuinely touched my heart to see this older man speak on something that's incredibly sensitive to my heart!!! There is a complete understanding of what he is saying and I think I'm gonna cry for the rest of my life now!!! God bless you!!!"

Spears and Robson met in the late 1990s as he was hired to choreograph her Baby One More Time Tour, commercials, and other performances. According to US Weekly, the pair allegedly dated from 2001 to 2002. The pop star also admitted to cheating on Justin Timberlake in her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me.

Wade Robson began dancing when he was only five years old. In the late 1990s, the choreographer directed music videos and world tours for pop acts such as Justin Timberlake's band NSYNC and Britney Spears.

Robson and Britney met when he was working with her for her 1999 tour. At the time, the pop star interviewed Robson to choreograph her tour, and she expressed, "He's a friggin' baby!", saying she had expected him to be in his 30s or 40s. The pair were rumored to have dated around 2001-02, while she was in a relationship with Timberlake from 1998 to 2002.

Britney Spears posted a video on Friday of Wade from his Instagram account promoting his From Trauma to Triumph podcast. The caption of Robson's post stated:

"Our new episode features Dr. Peter A. Levine, Ph.D. He is the developer of Somatic Experiencing, a naturalistic and neurobiological approach to healing trauma, which he has developed over the past 50 years... We also talk about the Somatic Experiencing technique and its application. Along with topics like dissociation, shame, self-compassion, and the role of community in healing."

Britney Spears received backlash from Michael Jackson's supporters for complimenting Wade's podcast. In 2005, Robson had testified in the trial that the artist had not molested him. However, he then filed a $1.5 billion lawsuit against Jackson's estate in 2013, alleging that Jackson abused him for seven years.

Robson and actor James Safechuck shared their experience on HBO’s Leaving Neverland documentary in 2019. The two men have also filed several lawsuits against Michael in the past, including one that was dismissed in 2017.

The suit was reopened under a California law but was tossed out again in 2021. The judge wrote that the reason for removing the case was “no evidence supporting plaintiff’s contention.”

However, as of August 2023, the California Court of Appeal stated that Robson and Safechuck, 46, can go to trial over their abuse allegations.

Britney Spears has maintained a friendship with Wade over the years. She also wrote about their relationship in her book, The Woman in Me, which was released on October 24, 2023. She said:

"We were out one night and we went to a Spanish bar. We danced and danced. I made out with him that night."

The alleged cheating reportedly caused Timberlake to release the song Cry Me a River. He had also confronted Robson in 2002 while Britney was hosting Saturday Night Live, and then shortly after, broke up with her over text. She had also written in the book that she turned a blind eye to her boyfriend Timberlake's infidelity.
