Singer Billie Eilish is quite vocal about her advocacy of climate awareness. The 22-year-old singer is one of the celebrities who doesn't fly private. She told Vogue in a cover story interview for January 2023 that she didn't like flying private and often looked for "workarounds" for travel.

The singer was spotted in the economy class of a flight to an unknown destination in August 2023, much to the delight of her co-passengers. They took to social media to express joy after having spotted Billie Eilish on the same plane as them.

However, this wasn't the only time the Ocean Eyes singer made a bold move towards making a difference for climate change. In 2022, she partnered with the non-profit, Reverb to set up Eco-Villages at the venues of her Happier Than Ever world tour. The Eco-Village stations let fans fill their reusable water bottles, register to vote, and even learn about non-profits that work towards environmental awareness and activism.

Speaking about it in her 2023 Vogue interview, Billie Eilish said that she wasn't "shoving information down people's throats," but was telling them what they could do.

"I'm still not shoving information down people's throats. I'm more like, I'm not going to tell you what to do. I'm just going to tell you why I do this. But you're also a bad person if you don't do it," Eilish told Vogue.

Ever since Eilish was spotted flying economy, the 9-time Grammy-winner has received a lot of praise for caring about the environment and spreading awareness about it.

A Billie Eilish fan uploaded a TikTok video of the singer spotted flying economy

In August 2023, one of Billie Eilish's fans spotted her several rows ahead of them on their flight. In a short video, posted on TikTok, the user wrote that they were unable to believe that they were on the same plane with the Ocean Eyes singer.

"Pov: You're on a plane with Billie (Still can't believe wtf just happened)" the caption read.

The video has been taken from a user sitting several seats behind Billie and also has a short clip of her getting down from the plane with her team. It even had a screenshot of Billie Eilish's Instagram story where she is seen wearing the same grey beanie with blue stars on it and an oversized blue hoodie.

The final story validated the fan's claim, leading to countless Eilish fans commenting on the TikTok video. Several fans called her "humble" for traveling in economy with others noting that they loved the fact that she had money for a private jet but chose not to use them. Many said that she didn't fly on private jets because she was "actually doing something for our environment." Some also that they thought Eilish flew on private jets but were pleasantly surprised to see her fly in commercial airplanes.

The TikTok video doesn't appear to have been taken in the first class and according to fans' comments, it seems that the singer was sitting in the economy class. This has only added to the adoration her fans have for her.

Celebrity Net Worth has reported that the singer has a net worth of $50 million, which makes a private jet easily affordable for her. However, her decision to fly commercial was a well-respected one among her fans.

Billie Eilish confessed she hates taking planes in her 2023 Vogue interview

Billie Eilish appeared on the cover of January 2023's Vogue and during the same, the singer spoke up about not liking flights. She said that although she has to take planes, she hates it.

Eilish was referring to touring's environmental impact when she made the statement. She revealed that she "refuses to fly private" and was committed to finding unusual workarounds for travel.

The interview also highlighted the singer-songwriter's determination to reduce the carbon footprint during the Happier Than Ever world tour. During her tour, she partnered with the non-profit Reverb and they neutralized 15,000+ tons of CO2 and saved. 8.8 million gallons of water. The non-profit's tour impact report equalized it to taking 3,000 homes off the electric grid for one whole year.

In August 2023, Billie Eilish also hosted a six-day-long climate awareness event called Overheated (named after a song from her second studio album). Several artists and climate activists participated in the event to talk about the climate crisis and their work to make a difference.

The event, hosted in The O2, London, held sessions on sustainable fashion, plant-based diet, and its benefits, and actions taken to mitigate climate change. Support+Feed, Eilish's mother's NGO initiative, was also listed as a presenter at the event.

Apart from Billie Eilish, her mother, Maggie Baird, was also a key speaker at Overheated. Other speakers included climate activist Tori Tusi, Robbie Lockie, the co-founder at Plant Based News, and Dominique Palmer, a youth climate and justice activist, among others.
