The long-standing feud between rappers Kendrick Lamar and Drake took a political turn after the Canadian rapper publicly reacted to former NDP leader Jagmeet Singh attending a Kendrick Lamar concert in Toronto. The concert that Singh attended was part of Lamar and SZA’s ongoing Grand National Tour, which made a stop in Drake’s hometown on June 12, 2025, as per Billboard.

On June 15, 2025, NFR Podcast shared the aforementioned news via a post on X. The post included an alleged screenshot from Drake’s Instagram DM to Singh, where the rapper called the politician a “goof” and was captioned:

As this post went viral, it sparked a flood of reactions online, with many users criticizing Drizzy for his alleged attack on a politician simply for attending a music event.

“Now you’re beefing with politicians too?! Let it go man,” one user reacted.

Some netizens mocked the Hotline Bling singer for supposedly leaking the DM himself, questioning the logic behind making private messages public.

“Why did drake himself leak these texts ?? How is he so stupid ?” one X user wrote.
“Why doesn’t drake post a screenshot of him calling Kendrick a goof in the DMs on his story,” another netizen commented.

“notice how drake always has to post his own dms cause literally nobody gives a sh*t You’re pushing 40 with kids man… it’s time to grow up,” another X user remarked.

Some users, however, backed the In My Feelings singer, arguing that as a Canadian political figure, Singh should not be attending a show headlined by Lamar, who is known for openly dissing Drake, one of Canada’s prominent cultural icons.

“I mean he’s telling the truth. If you’re a Canadian politician, have some pride. Imagine Trump buying tickets to the Canadian anthem,” one user commented.
“its true, your a Canadian politican, why do Canadians have no pride, they hate themselves, not Drake,” another user commented.
“I can’t lie tho seeing your tax money crip walking to a song calling you a pedo is f*cked up,” another netizen observed.

What happened between Kendrick Lamar and Drake?

Rappers Kendrick Lamar and Drake have been locked in a highly publicized feud, filled with diss tracks, personal allegations, and even legal disputes over the years.

Their relationship had initially started on a positive note, with Lamar featuring on Drizzy’s Take Care in 2011 and opening for him during the 2012 Club Paradise Tour. They also collaborated on tracks like A$AP Rocky’s F**kin’ Problems and Lamar’s own Poetic Justice.

However, the dynamic shifted in 2013 when Lamar delivered his now-infamous verse on Big Sean’s Control, where he called out several rappers by name, including Drake. The Canadian rapper downplayed his response to Lamar’s diss and added that he “didn’t really have anything to say about it.”

Although their feud had always been simmering under the surface for the next few years, it escalated in October 2023, when Drake and J. Cole dropped First Person Shooter, where Cole positioned himself alongside Drizzy and Lamar as part of rap’s “Big Three.” The lyrics said:

“Love when they argue the hardest MC/ Is it K-Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me?/ We the big three like we started a league/ but right now, I feel like Muhammad Ali.”

In March 2024, Lamar issued a rebuttal on Like That, where he collaborated with Future and Metro Boomin, dismissing the “Big Three” label entirely with the line:

“Motherf*ck the big three, ni**a, it’s just big me.”

This marked the beginning of the actual feud, with both rappers releasing diss tracks directly aimed at each other. Drizzy released Push Ups, where he allegedly mocked Lamar’s stature, label deals, and even his shoe size. Days later, he shared Taylor Made Freestyle on Instagram, taunting Lamar for his silence on Push Ups.

In response, Kendrick Lamar broke that silence on April 30, 2024, with Euphoria. Then on May 3, he released 6:16 in LA, a song that suggested alleged betrayal within Drizzy’s own circle. The lyrics read:

“Have you ever thought that OVO was working for me?/ Fake bully, I hate bullies/ You must be a terrible person/ Everyone inside your team is whispering that you deserve it.”

Hours later, Drizzy fired back with Family Matters, a track that seemingly aimed at Lamar’s fiancée, Whitney Alford, and her alleged infidelity. Lamar then retaliated with Meet the Grahams on May 4.

However, it was Not Like Us, released less than 24 hours later, that delivered the most devastating blow. Over a Mustard-produced beat, K Dot accused Drizzy and his team of predatory behavior. The lyrics read:

“Say, Drake, I hear you like ’em young/ You better not ever go to cell block one... And Baka got a weird case, why is he around?/ Certified Lover Boy? Certified p*dophiles.”

Although Drizzy responded on May 5 with The Heart Part 6, public perception on the feud had already started to shift.

Even as Lamar celebrated commercial success, debuting Not Like Us at No. 1 on the Hot 100, performing it at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, and winning five Grammy Awards, the aftermath for Drizzy turned increasingly legal.

On November 25, 2024, the Canadian rapper filed a motion accusing UMG and Spotify of inflating Lamar’s streaming numbers during the peak of their feud. The next day, he filed a second motion alleging that UMG had funneled payments through iHeartRadio in a “pay-to-play” scheme and claimed defamation.

Though he withdrew those petitions in January 2025, Drizzy filed a formal defamation lawsuit asserting that the Not Like Us lyrics had harmed his reputation. By April, Drizzy amended his lawsuit and included Lamar’s Super Bowl performance, claiming it was intended to “assassinate the character of another artist.”

Drake is set to tour the UK in the summer of 2025. He is headlining the Wireless Festival in London’s Finsbury Park, followed by performances at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham and at Co-op Live in Manchester.

Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar is currently on his Grand National Tour with SZA and will perform on June 16th at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey.
