Jade Thirlwall, aka JADE, is gearing up to drop her new single, Plastic Box, nearly two months before the release of her debut album as a solo artist, That's Showbiz, Baby!, in September. In an Instagram post on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, the English singer shared the cover art for her upcoming single, which features her sporting a nude bodysuit and matching yellow-green hair and boots.
In the caption, she revealed when the track will be coming out, writing,
"Plastic Box. Out 20th June."
In a subsequent Instagram post, JADE shared a video of herself in a baby-blue, see-through outfit while lip-syncing to a part of her single. She appears to be on set filming for a music video. Plastic Box's release date reveal comes after the Little Mix member debuted the song during her live solo debut at Liverpool for BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend on May 25, 2025.
She performed five of her hits, since Little Mix went on hiatus and the members explored the music scene as solo performers, along with a medley of some of the girl band's hits. The setlist included Plastic Box, where she sings about a woman's woes and prickly feelings about her partner's romantic past.
JADE recently made headlines for her anti-JK Rowling chat at a London music festival
JADE took the stage at Mighty Hoopla, the UK's biggest pop festival known for celebrating the LGBTQ+ culture, on May 31, 2025. She performed some of her solo singles and a handful of Little Mix's hits, including Shout Out to My Ex.
However, besides her musical number, the English singer also used her headlining set to lead the crowd to chant an expletive aimed at homophobia and transphobia, which also dragged Harry Potter author JK Rowling. At some point in her set, while performing her song F**k You For Now (FUFN), JADE addressed the crowd, saying:
"I want you to put your middle fingers up in the air and I'm going to name some things, and some people, and I want you to shout, 'F**k you,' back to me."
She listed bad s*x, misogyny, homophobes, and transphobes. Like in her previous prompts, the crowd responded with, "F**k you," when the FUFN singer mentioned Rowling's name. Videos of the crowd's chant have been circulating on social media, earning various reactions from netizens.
JK Rowling has come under fire for years for her comments on transgender rights. In 2020, the author shared on X her views on the subject, writing,
"If s*x isn't real, there's no same-s*x attraction. If s*x isn't real, the lived reality of women globally is erased."
More recently, she made her stance clear in a June 11 tweet and a response to a fan comment saying that they don't care about her opinions on things except writing magic. In response, Rowling said that her opinion on magic is the same as her opinion on "women with d**ks," which is that "neither are real."
Meanwhile, JADE's anti-JK Rowling rant at Mighty Hoopla came after she joined 400 UK artists and other workers in the music industry in an open letter showing support towards the trans community.
Stay tuned for new music releases from JADE and other artists as the year progresses.
