Kanye West has reportedly changed his legal name to Ye Ye, garnering a series of reactions from netizens. Notably, the rapper had once changed his name to Ye in 2021.
As per a report by Page Six, published on June 10, West's chief financial officer, Hussain Lalani, recently filed new documents under the name "Ye Ye". The new name also shows up in all his businesses, including Yeezy Apparel and his record label.
Many netizens have reacted to West changing his name again. One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote:
"Ye ye?? that’s the best he could come up with? mahnn i’ve named group chats better than that."
"Ye Ye sounds like a guy who auto-tunes his emails," another user wrote.
"Ain’t nobody calling him that," another netizen commented.
Some users took sarcastic digs, stating that no one cared about the rapper's name. One user tweeted:
"Oh PLEASE keep us updated. This is really the ONLY news that matters in this world right now."
"We don’t care stop reporting on him," another user wrote.
"At this point, @kanyewest name changes got more spin-offs than the actual albums," another netizen wrote.
The rapper previously stated in 2018 that he would start calling himself Ye and then changed it legally in 2021.
When Kanye West's former chief of staff demanded he be called Ye
In March 2024, the rapper's former chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, sent out a letter, urging the music industry to refer to Kanye West as Ye. He asserted that the former is his 'slave name' and that he deserved full self-determination.
The letter read:
"Ye is one of the most recognizable people in the world, on par with presidents and popes. He didn’t take the decision to change his name, potentially sacrificing some of the immense value captured by the brand of ‘Kanye West,’ lightly. The change was made fully, legally, and permanently. This is who he is now. His name is Ye.”
“He has on several occasions referred to it as his slave name. Ye is a black man in America who wants the right to full self-determination just like everyone else,” the letter added.
Incidentally, Milo Yiannopoulos resigned from the post of the Runaway singer's chief of staff later that year.
Meanwhile, West also tweeted recently that he would stop using his @kanyewest handle on the platform as he had changed his name. He wrote:
"Ima finally stop using the twitter cause my name is Ye. Gonna start a ye account and it is what it is."

Kanye West accused Shopify of owing him $4 million
Earlier this month, the rapper alleged that Shopify owed him $4 million, having taken his website down earlier this year. He tweeted:
"Shopify is currently holding 4 million dollars of mine."
He then added:
"Just to put it in question form. Who do you think Shopify is ran by."
Ye had an e-commerce website on Shopify where he sold his merchandise. However, the merchant took his website down in February 2025 after he started selling t-shirts that bore a hooked-cross symbol on them.
