DJ Hed's tweet comes in response to ongoing LA protests, which began on Friday, June 6, after the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers started conducting raids in the city.

The BBC reported that the raids were concentrated in the Latino-dense areas of LA. The publication also noted that the most recent operation took place in the southern regions of the city, including the Paramount and Westlake districts. It is worth noting that around 82% of the population in these districts is Hispanic.

ICE officers told CBS News that they arrested 44 illegal immigrants from a job site on Friday, while 77 others were booked from the greater LA region that day. The publication noted that the immigration raids have intensified after Donald Trump returned to the White House in January 2025.

As part of the LA protests, the Federal Building, located in downtown LA was surrounded by over 1000 rioters on Saturday, June 7, 2025. The building is where the ICE detainees were being held. Another key LA protest site emerged in Paramount, where the protestors taking shelter in a Home Depot shop were subdued using flash bangs and tear gas.

Multiple vehicles were set ablaze with incendiary devices, as the unrest among the crowds caused the 101 Freeway to halt temporarily on Sunday, June 8, 2025. On the same day, there was also some unrest in San Francisco wherein three officers were injured while 50 people were later arrested.

President Donald Trump decided to strengthen the military force in LA as the unrest in the LA protest grew. He mobilized an additional 700 Marines and 2000 California National Guard troops on Monday, June 9, 2025, according to a report by NPR News.

Trump spoke to reporters about the protests in LA on Monday and said that while he didn't think of it as an "insurrection," it was something that "could have led to an insurrection."

"I wouldn't call it quite an insurrection, but it could have led to an insurrection," he noted.

The US Northern Command released a statement on Monday, June 9, 2025, noting that the infantry battalion is now on "alert status." It added that they will join the National Guard "who are protecting federal personnel and federal property in the greater Los Angeles area."

In response to the National Guard troops pouring into California, the state has sued the President's administration. Gavin Newsom - the California Governor - claims in the lawsuit that Trump has violated the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution by activating the National Guard without asking for the troops.

Talking to NPR's All Things Considered about the lawsuit, Governor Gavin Newsom called the move "immoral" and "unconstitutional."

"It's also unconstitutional, and the mobilization order that was sent to the Guard has a statute that requires that it shall be issued through the governors of the states," Newsom said.

State Attorney General Rob Bonta is representing Newsom in the suit.
