Braun further said that he thought of working with some big artists when he bought Big Machine Records.

For the unversed, Big Machine was Swift's old label, which Braun's company, Ithaca Holdings, acquired for $300 million in June 2019. This gave him control over the pop star's first six albums. Braun revealed that he felt Taylor didn't like him since he was then managing Bieber and Kanye West.

"I thought once this announcement happened, she’d talk to me, see who I am, and we’d work together... Then this Tumblr comes out, and it says all of this stuff, and I was just shocked," added the record executive.

Swift left Big Machine in November 2018 and signed a multi-year record deal with Republic Records, which Universal Music Group owns. Until his retirement in June 2024, Braun had managed some top-tier artists like Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, and Kanye West.

Scooter Braun recently reflected on his career when he was younger, as well as his feud with pop singer Taylor Swift. According to NME, Braun getting control over Taylor's albums was described as the "worst-case scenario" by the singer.

In June 2019, she took to Tumblr and shared a post expressing her disappointment at Braun's deal. In the post, she claimed that she learned about the acquisition by Braun's company the same day the public was made aware of it. She further accused Braun of exposing her to "incessant, manipulative bullying."

"Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it." the singer wrote at the time.

In the current interview, Scooter Braun recalled the time when he decided to sell Taylor Swift's catalogue. He said:

"I don't want to go into too much detail, but it’s now come out very factually that I did offer it [to Swift] … multiple times in that process. They said no, I sold to someone else, washed my hands of it and moved on."

However, the singer had a separate version of the story that she opened up about in November 2020. In a tweet, Taylor Swift wrote:

"He would never even quote my team a price. These master recordings were not for sale to me."

In 2020, Scooter Braun ended up selling Taylor's catalogue to private equity company Shamrock Capital. The popstar has recently revealed in a statement that she bought all six albums from Shamrock Capital.
