Gospel musician Dr. Norman Hutchins passed away on June 5, 2025, at his home in Carson, California, as reported by urbanmusicscene.com. He was 62 years old. The official cause of death remains undisclosed at the time of writing.

According to the outlet, Dr. Hutchins was a respected pastor, a platinum-selling and award-winning gospel recording artist, songwriter, guitarist, and servant leader based in Los Angeles.

His wife, Karen Hutchins, shared in a public statement with urbanmusicscene.com:

“Norman was not only my husband and partner in ministry but my greatest source of inspiration. His faith, strength, and love touched every soul he met. Though my heart is heavy, I am comforted knowing his legacy of hope and healing will continue to shine through the lives he changed.”

Following Dr. Hutchins’ passing, social media users shared tributes. Texas resident Charles Shaw expressed on Facebook that he was “deeply heartbroken” by the news. He mentioned he was “assisting with a tour featuring Dr. Pastor Norman Hutchins in support of his newly released book, Father, I Never Knew You.” Shaw's post included a poster of Hutchins, who was set to appear at New Life Community Church in Tyler, Texas, on June 12, 2025, for a book signing and live performance.

“Please join me in offering prayers for his wife and family, as well as for everyone involved in the tour. We will deeply miss this giant in gospel music, but we trust that God's will prevails. Please share this post to inform others that the concert tour scheduled to take place in Tyler, Texas, has been canceled due to Pastor Hutchins' passing,” Charles wrote.

According to allmusic.com, Dr. Norman Hutchins was a LA-based minister and Grammy- and Dove-nominated gospel artist, known for his contemporary, traditional, and southern gospel music, often topping the Billboard charts. Born in September 1962 in Dover, Delaware, he began preaching at the age of eight and was ordained by twelve. After marrying his first wife, Michelle Hutchins, at 19, they preached throughout Delaware, Pennsylvania, and California.

Later, he married his second wife, Karen, who remained by his side until his passing. The late pastor had three children with Michelle. Throughout the years, he battled diabetes, which resulted in vision impairment and required a kidney transplant.

Norman Hutchins earned his master’s degree in biblical counseling and a doctorate in church administration during the 1980s. In 1992, he launched his career in gospel music with the release of his self-titled album.

Since then, he has released other notable albums, including Battlefield, Spontaneous Praise, If You Didn’t Know… Now You Know, and Hosanna, among others. Some of Hutchins’ best-known songs are Jesus I Love You, Where I Long to Be, Emmanuel, You Brought Us Peace, and God’s Got a Blessing (With My Name On It).

Dr. Norman Hutchins served as the pastor and worship leader at Frontline Ministries, the church he and his wife, Karen, founded in Dover, Delaware. He also held the position of Executive Minister of Music for the Presiding Bishop of the Churches of God in Christ and was the Director of Social Services at the West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles. According to his official website, the late pastor was also recognized as a community leader and entrepreneur.
