Singer Erykah Badu had to cancel her headlining performance at the 2024 Cross The Tracks festival due to illness. Badu, who was scheduled to perform at the London festival, had the news of her cancellation announced by the festival organizers via Instagram on Sunday (May 26).
The singer spoke about her cancellation on Monday (May 27) on her official Instagram handle, with a selfie of herself lying on the bed. The post featured her selfie with the words "London I am bombed I missed you" in a decorative font. The caption accompanying the post read:
"Thank you to all the fam that came out and much gratitude. I do not take it for granted. I don't miss shows. So I am disappointed and bombed. We will be together soon. Divine timing. - badu."
Badu did not provide the details of her illness. The cancellation was announced hours before the singer was set to take the stage on Sunday at Brockwell Park in London.
Festival organizers react to Erykah Badu's Cross The Tracks festival cancellation
According to the official statement released by the organizers of the Cross The Tracks festival, Erykah Badu was unable to attend due to an undisclosed illness. The officials stated that Badu and her team conducted soundchecks on Sunday, but the singer was unable to make it for the performance at the last minute.
In their Instagram post, the organizers expressed their disappointment:
"We are utterly devastated to inform you that Erykah Badu will no longer be playing Cross The Tracks 2024. We have spent the last 18 months working to secure this booking for her fans, her touring party has already arrived in London and has been sound-checking all morning but unfortunately due to illness, Erykah will be unable to make it."
The organizers further mentioned that it was a "hard message" to share and requested fans to still enjoy the "rest of this fantastic lineup." They also expressed gratitude to several fans for understanding the issue, emphasizing that the situation was "completely out of their control."
The festival boasted 70 other acts apart from Erykah Badu's performance, including those of Eve, Madlib, BADBADNOTGOOD, and En Vogue. Eve's performance was reportedly rescheduled earlier after Badu canceled her headlining performance, as reported by NME.
The organizers also requested fans to enjoy the rest of their ensemble despite them having to cancel Badu's segment of the festival.

In an Instagram post dated May 23, Erykah Badu urged Lauryn Hill to record new music and release a new album. This came shortly after Hill's 1998 debut album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, ranked No. 1 on Apple Music's 100 Best Albums of All Time list.
In the caption of her post, Erykah Badu expressed her belief that Hill's "best work" is still yet to come, urging her to record a new album. She wrote:
"We celebrate you. You weathered the storm L boogie. @mslaurynhill . Your best work is still in u. I see u."
Following her debut album, Lauryn Hill has not released another album apart from her MTV Unplugged 2.0 live album.
