While Vegas got the better of Edmonton in their 2023 postseason series en route to winning the Stanley Cup, the Oilers earned a measure of revenge, claiming a 6-3 victory.

The win improved Edmonton's record to 18-10-2, while Vegas fell to 19-8-3.

The first period was relatively quiet, with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scoring the lone goal to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead.

But a second-period barrage of offense put the Oilers firmly in the driver’s seat. Goals from Zach Hyman, Connor Brown, Leon Draisaitl, and Corey Perry increased their lead to five, while Vegas managed to cut into the lead with two goals in 26 seconds from Victor Olofsson and Ivan Barbashev.

Just 60 seconds into the third period, Brett Howden made things interesting by scoring shorthanded, his 11th of the year. But the Edmonton Oilers regained their three-goal lead just 38 seconds later thanks to Jeff Skinner’s sixth goal.

Vegas goaltender Adin Hill made 28 saves in a losing effort, while Stuart Skinner was impressive with 38 saves.

Many questions were raised about the state of the Edmonton Oilers’ goaltending entering the 2024-25 NHL season. While Stuart Skinner (and Calvin Pickard) helped backstop Edmonton to within one win of their first Stanley Cup since 1990, not many believed they’d be able to strike fear into the hearts of opponents.

And while Skinner hasn’t been the most consistent of NHL goalies this season, he put together one of his finest performances of the campaign, making 38 saves against the high-powered offense of the Golden Knights.

#2. Leon Draisaitl

What else can be said about the fellow superstar next to Connor McDavid? Leon Draisaitl racked up a goal and two assists, giving him three more points on the season and once again demonstrating why he’s also one of the best players in the world.

#3. Zach Hyman

Hyman is slowly coming back to life after starting the season in a major slump, making fans believe his 54-goal performance last season was an anomaly. He scored his eighth goal of the year, giving him five goals in his last five games
