3 reasons why the Carolina Hurricanes must part ways with Rod Brind'Amour

The Carolina Hurricanes were eliminated in six games by the New York Rangers in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Hurricanes started the series down 3-0 but did win two straight games to force Game 6. In Game 7, Carolina was up 3-1 going into the third period, but the Hurricanes fell apart and lost 5-3.

With their season over, the future of head coach Rod Brind'Amour is in doubt as he doesn't have a contract for next season. But, after the playoff exit, here are three reasons why Carolina should move on from him.

3 reasons why Carolina should move on from Rod Brind'Amour

#1. Time for a new voice

Although Rod Brind'Amour is one of the top coaches in the NHL, it seems at certain points his message no longer gets through to the players. Brind'Amour has been the head coach of the Hurricanes since the 2018-19 season. After six seasons with the team, it's uncertain if the players are still playing for him or if his message is getting through anymore.

At this point, it could be time for a new head coach in Carolina.

#2. Lack of playoff success

Rod Brind'Amour is one of the top coaches in the NHL, but for whatever reason, the Carolina Hurricanes have struggled in the playoffs.

Carolina made it to the Conference Finals in his first year with the team. Since then, the Hurricanes, lost in the first round, lost in the second round two years in a row, the Conference finals last season - but were swept - and now the second round. Carolina has one of the top teams on paper, but the team can't seem to get over the hump.

#3. Alleged rift between Brind'Amour and team

Although Brind'Amour is one of the top coaches in the NHL there appears to be an alleged rift between him and the team. Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon thought a deal was getting close, but nothing came to fruition.

“I think it’s all but done,” Dundon said, via TSN. “[General manager] Don [Waddell] and him are working on it. I don’t think there’s anything there. We’re in the playoffs and they haven’t focused on it. They’re doing it together. I said OK to almost everything they’ve asked me for. They’re just getting through the last little stuff.”

However, according to TSN insider Darren Dreger, the team pulled the offer.

Why it got pulled is uncertain, but there does seem to be a rift between him and the team.
