Fans reacted as the Boston Bruins suffered a tough 3-2 overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night, with a third-period collapse. Tied 2-2 going into the final period, the Bruins failed to register a shot on goal, while Ottawa dominated with 12 shots in those 20 minutes.
Boston’s troubles continued into overtime as they struggled to break through Ottawa’s defense. Elias Lindholm managed the Bruins' only shot in extra time, but Brady Tkachuk of Ottawa sealed the win just moments later.
Bruins fans were clearly unhappy after the loss. They took to social media to express their frustrations. Following are some fan reactions on X:
“Jim Montgomery couldn’t motivate this team to make a sandwich.”
“Why are almost all the passes off the mark or bouncing off stick or skate blades. And the "fail to clear virus” is burning through the team again just like last year resulting in " late goalitis",” quipped one fan.
“This is who the bruins are , a very offensively challenged team . And it's not going to get better,” commented another user.
Fans largely criticized their performance in the comments. Most pointed fingers at the coach and the team spirit, with one tweeting:
“A point in a game they deserved to lose. No passion, no energy, no execution. Their breakouts are chaotic and disjointed. This team is in a bad place. Short of a couple of trades or firing a coach can't seem them improving much.”
“Great coaching. letting them go 20+ minutes without a shot. not taking a timeout to wake them up. I guess they'll get 2 timeouts next game,” quipped one user.
“24 minutes without a single shot on goal? I've seen enough. Time for change. I vote for a coaching change,” commented another fan.
Jim Montgomery claims he doesn’t have an ‘answer’ for Boston Bruins struggles
After the 3-2 overtime loss to the Senators, Boston Bruins coach Jim Montgomery didn’t hold back about the team’s struggles. He seemed frustrated and admitted that he didn’t have a clear answer for why the Bruins couldn’t perform when it mattered most.
When asked what the Bruins can do to fix their third-period problems, Montgomery said:
“Talk about it. We’ll look at why and what we’re doing sports science-wise. Right now, I don’t have an answer for you.” [H.T Boston.com]
Despite his team's struggles, Montgomery said that he didn’t doubt that his players weren't listening but acknowledged that they aren't playing well enough.
