New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba could be on the move, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported. Friedman commented on the Rangers looking to make some moves following their 6-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night.

Among the names circulating the rumor mill, Friedman pointed to Jacob Trouba and Chris Kreider as prime trade targets.

Here’s a closer look at what Friedman said in a post on X/Twitter:

Those other options could include players such as Mika Zibanejad. But the biggest name has to be Trouba. Given Trouba's 15-team no-trade clause, the following clubs stand out as realistic landing spots for the Rangers' captain.

4 realistic landing spots for Jacob Trouba

#4. Utah Hockey Club

The Utah Hockey Club continues to struggle after a strong opening to the season. Injuries and inconsistency have plagued the team, especially on the blue line. Injuries to John Marino and Sean Durzi have hampered the Hockey Club from the start.

Adding Jacob Trouba would immediately solidify their middle pairing while giving top blueliner Mikhail Sergachev support. In particular, Trouba brings significant physicality, something the Hockey Club sorely needs.

#3. Vancouver Canucks

The Canucks have been rumored to seek an upgrade on the blue line. Friedman added that the Canucks may be looking to bring back Nikita Zadorov. However, doing so may not be quite so easy. Thus, the Canucks could look at Trouba as an interesting option given the possibility of adding more toughness to their backend.

Cap considerations could come into play as Trouba is in the sixth year of a seven-year, $56 million deal. The $8 million cap hit could be challenging to work with, but with retention by the Rangers, something could work out.

#2. Toronto Maple Leafs

The Maple Leafs are another club looking to upgrade their backend. The addition of physical blueliner Chris Tanev has complemented Jack McCabe’s bone-crunching style. Oliver Ekman-Larsson has also played with a mean streak.

However, the Leafs lack more physicality in the bottom pairing. Conor Timmins and Simon Benoit look tough, but adding Jacob Trouba would make the Leafs' bottom pairing impossible to deal with. Trouba wouldn’t have the pressure or perform in Toronto the way he does in New York. So, the Leafs could be a way for Trouba to escape the spotlight.

#1. Edmonton Oilers

By far, the Edmonton Oilers are the club that needs the most support on the backend. The departures of Phillip Broberg and Cody Ceci via trade have left the Oilers without a solid bottom four. Plus, Darnell Nurse, Brett Kulak, Ty Emberson and Travis Dermott aren’t exactly the hardest hitters.

So, bringing Trouba in could help the Oilers get another tough, physical blue liner in the lineup while giving the team additional leadership and veteran presence. If the Oiler could make the cap situation work, Trouba would be a fantastic addition to their blue line.
