Track and field athletes JaMeesia Ford and Anthaya Charlton made history in the 100m event at the 2025 NCAA Track and Field Championships. Ford, who competes for the University of South Carolina, and Charlton, who represents the University of Florida, both posted times of 10.87 seconds in the 100m semi-finals. Ford edged out Charlton by a time of just 0.002 seconds, showcasing how close the race actually was.
Ford and Charlton both made history, despite Charlton finishing in second place. JaMeesia Ford's 100m personal best meant she tied for the sixth-fastest time in collegiate history, proving why she is one of the most highly rated sprinting prospects in the nation. However, it wasn't the only time she broke a collegiate record at the 2025 NCAA Championships, as she also ran a time of 21.98 seconds in the 200m event, making her the fifth fastest in collegiate history in the 200m.
Anthaya Charlton narrowly missed out on first place in the 100m, however she also made it to the record books as she ranked above Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie and Shaunae Miller-Uibo to claim second on the Bahamian all-time list with her 10.87 second finish. Charlton also specializes in the long jump events, and also set a new national record of 6.98m at the Razorback Invitational earlier this year.
The pair's performances at the 2025 NCAA Championships just show how tough the competition is this year, with Ford and Charlton making waves in the sport of track and field already.
