Josh Kerr is all set to make his outdoor debut ahead of the highly anticipated Olympic season after an incredible indoor campaign. He set the indoor world record in the two-mile race, clocking 8:00.67 at the Millrose Games in February, taking off almost three seconds from the previous record held by the legendary long-distance athlete Mo Farah.

Kerr was previously set to open his outdoor season at the Prefontaine Classic later this year where he would be going head-to-head against arch-rival Jakob Ingebrigtsen in the 1500m. However, in a recent update, Kerr revealed that he opted to open his outdoor season earlier at the Oregon Relays, which would be held at Hayward Field.

The British athlete would be participating in the 800m, which took fans off-guard as he primarily competes in the 1500m.

In a new Instagram post, Josh Kerr expressed his anticipation of competing in the event later this week by sharing a few pictures.

"Race week, focus up. Spinning the legs before altitude training block," he captioned the image.

Josh Kerr comes from a family of athletes with his father and brother being rugby players. He started his track and field journey at a very young age and showed great potential as an athlete.

The 26-year-old decided to compete in the NCAA and initially faced difficulties getting accepted into college programs. Finally, he was accepted into the University of New Mexico on a full scholarship.

In 2017, Kerr started dominating the college circuit after he won the indoor national title in the mile race after defeating fellow competitor and NCAA champion, Edward Cheserek. He also secured the outdoor 1500m title that year as well.

In 2018, Josh Kerr broke a 37-year-old record in the 1500m, clocking 3:35.01. He decided to forgo his collegiate eligibility to turn pro and signed a deal with Brooks Sports.

Kerr qualified for the Tokyo Olympics and competed in the 1500m at the quadrennial games. He clinched the bronze medal in the 1500m, finishing behind arch-rival Jakob Ingebrigtsen. Their rivalry continued at the 2023 World Championships where Kerr clinched the title, dominating the Norwegian athlete. Their rivalry is one of the most discussed among track and field enthusiasts.
