Political commentator Matt Wallace recently made some claims about a clip of a man allegedly celebrating Charlie Kirk's death that went viral last month. According to The New York Post, a bearded man was reportedly captured on camera celebrating in the crowd, moments after Kirk was assassinated. On October 12, 2025, Candace Owens reshared a video on X, formerly Twitter, and inquired about the man. Replying to her tweet, Matt Wallace, on Monday, October 13, 2025, noted:“Yes, I am the one who originally edited that video together and he reached out to me not long after. Happy to send you everything I have, or come on the show and discuss it if you want!”Meanwhile, Candace Owens reposted the video from another X user, @JohnBasham, who reported that the man started “celebrating immediately” when the bullet was shot at the late American right-wing political activist. While the X-user claimed that the man knew “exactly where the shooter was located and looked back at the assassin’s perch and cheered uncontrollably,” Candace Owens asked in her tweet:“So this is sort of crazy but the man that cheered after Charlie got shot has actually never been fully identified. He is known only as “David”. I am trying to get in touch with him because someone sent me some other relevant footage of him. Anyone know this is?”For the unversed, Charlie Kirk was fatally shot at the age of 31 on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. The late activist, who co-founded the conservative student organization, Turning Point USA, was reportedly addressing a huge crowd at a Utah Valley University event.Mystery man who appeared to cheer after Charlie Kirk’s assassination defends his action amid the viral videoCharlie Kirk (Image via Getty)In an article published on September 12, 2025, The New York Post reported that the man who claimed to be the person seen in the viral video goes by David on the social media platform X. After he was filmed at the Utah Valley University event, the man reportedly posted a two-minute statement and attempted to explain himself.“When I heard a sharp crack at first I thought it might have been fireworks or a disruptive prank… I looked up to the horizon for smoke. When none appeared, I realized it must have been a firearm.”Noting that he was with his friends during the event, the man recalled the incident and claimed that he “believed Charlie had been gravely injured.” He further defended his actions and added that he had “checked” the security team’s movement before he stood up to his feet.“I stood and shouted ‘USA,’ not as a provocation, but to project strength, encourage others, and create a distraction that might help calm panic or even save lives,” the man explained. Meanwhile, a 22-year-old man named Tyler Robinson was arrested over the killing of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk. The shooter was taken into custody after a 33-hour manhunt that ended after his father reportedly helped persuade him to surrender to police.Notably, his arrest was first announced by US President Donald Trump, who reportedly called for the suspected shooter to face the death penalty.
