90 Day Fiancé: Love in Paradise season 4 aired its season premiere on Monday, April 22, 2024. During the segment, fans were introduced to new couples and got insights about their long-distance relationships.

One of the couples that the audience saw as part of the season 4 cast was Shawn and Alliya. During the show, Shawn was at the salon getting his hair colored. He told the hairdresser that he wanted his hair to be blond because Alliya liked it that way.

The hairdresser asked him how the two met, and Shawn explained that they had met online since she lived in Brazil. The cast member told the cameras that he had been involved with Alliya for three years. He described Alliya as "dynamic," "s*xy," and "beautiful." Shawn added that she was also "super smart" and soulful.

When Shawn's hairdresser said that Alliya sounded perfect, the cast member nervously laughed and said that ideal was an "interesting" word. He revealed that when he first met Alliya, she was a 'he' and was called Douglas.

Shawn said in a confessional:

"Alliya's biologically male and when I met her she went by Douglas. He would wear makeup but always then have boy clothes, boy masculinity, boy hair so I didn't think anything of it."

In 90 Day Fiancé: Love in Paradise season 4, episode 1, Shawn opened up about Alliya's transition into a woman. While getting his hair colored, he opened up to his hairdresser about how the transition would affect their relationship.

The cast member recalled Alliya being asked to be on a float during a pride parade, asking if she had ever been in dra,g and helping her pick out a wig. Shawn said that when he put on a wig, her personality changed. "I think that's when Alliya was born."

The hairdresser said that Shawn was a part of the journey, and Shawn said that he felt a little left behind lately since he hadn't seen her in eight months. He said that since she had been evolving, the 90 Day Fiancé: Love in Paradise season 4star needed to "catch up." In a confessional, Shawn said he believed that "Douglas was Douglas" and that Alliya was a persona that sometimes came out.

Shawn told the cameras that things had been shifting rapidly, and Alliya had said there was no more Douglas, and he didn't know what it meant. The cast member added that he wasn't sure if he wasn't asking if he was in denial. Shawn said that he was the one who told her that he would be willing to explore and "opened the Pandora's box."

The 90 Day Fiancé: Love in Paradise star said he didn't know where they would go. He told the hairdresser that the transition had its difficulties. He noted that he never liked putting a label on his s*xuality and was attracted to both men and women. However, Shawn had only predominantly dated men since his divorce.

In a confessional, the TLC star said that he was initially attracted to the way Alliya (formerly known as Douglas) looked and wondered whether the transition would impact their intimacy.

The 90 Day Fiancé: Love in Paradise cast member stated that he was conflicted about what would happen if Alliya "fully" transitioned. He was afraid that he would lose Douglas completely if Alliya became "100%" female.

"I'm just not quite ready to give up Douglas," Shawn told the hairdresser.
