American Idol season 22 episode 13 saw Meghan Trainer serve as a mentor

In American Idol season 22 episode 13, the remaining contestants performed live to secure their position in the top 10. The segment saw Meghan Trainer serve as a mentor while former contestant David Archuleta returned to the show to debut his new single.

The segment started with Abi Carter singing All Too Well. The mentor believed that the contestant was taking a big risk by singing a Taylor Swift song and guided her as to how to make her performance better. However, for the first time in the ABC show, Abi received some negative comments for her performance.

Luke Bryan advised her not to get "too comfortable" performing with the piano. He further told her to "work the room." Lionel Richie praised her for pushing herself while Katy Perry told her she was "angelic."

Will Moseley performed next and sang Startin' Over. Meghan Trainer told the American Idol season 22 contestant to use his smile as a tool. After the performance, the judges' comments included Lionel Richie telling Will that he chose the right song and had the "right rhythm." Katy Perry echoed Meghan Trainer's thoughts, while Luke said the performance was an "ace in the hole."

Jayna Elisa sang Diamonds and Meghan assured her that her "tricks" were enough for Elisa to prove herself. Katy called the performance balanced and measured, while Luke called it "timeless" and "professional." Lionel Richie also praised the singer.

Mia Matthews sang Over You and Meghan advised her to work on her body language to look more mature. About the performance, Luke said that the American Idol season 22 contestant looked like a star while Katy told her to use the stage.

Roman Collins sang one of Katy Perry's hit songs, Roar, and it paid off. While Meghan expressed concern for picking one of the judges' songs, the judges gave the singer a standing ovation. Katy Perry shook his hand for doing a good job while Richie said that his "roaring" was "amazing."

Jack Blocker was the next singer to perform in American Idol season 22 episode 13. His rendition of Blinding Nights was termed the "coolest flip" by Meghan Trainer. On the main stage, he earned praise from the judges but Luke Bryan told him to bring more energy into his performances.

For Emmy Russell's rendition of Lose Yourself to Love Me, Luke complimented her for shining despite being put out of her comfort zone. Katy Perry thought it was one of Russell's best performances on American Idol season 22.

Triston Harper sang Beautiful Crazy and dedicated it to his girlfriend. Lionel Richie warned him about losing his power while singing but enjoyed the performance overall. Luke and Katy liked his Sunday performance better than the one he gave on Monday and admitted having to readjust their expectations.

Julia Gognon sang Something in the Orange and earned nothing but praise from the judges. Kaibienne was up next and sang Wrecking Ball. Luke praised her for picking a "bigger" song while Lionel Richie told her to use the crack in her voice as her signature move.

McKenna, who had only met Meghan Trainer, virtually sang Cardigan. Katy Perry called the performance one of her favorites of the night, while Luke noted that it was "next level."

The last act of the night was Kayko, who sang Somebody That I Used to Know. Although Trainer was worried about his choice of song, the judges hugged him after the performance for a job well done.

Jayna and Roman were eliminated from the show while the rest became the Top 10 contestants of American Idol season 22. The ABC show will return next week with another episode on Sunday.
