Charity Lockhart earns America’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer
Lockhart’s appearance in the third audition episode began with her singing Over the Rainbow. Simon Cowell stopped the performance early, stating it didn’t work for him. He then encouraged her to perform a second prepared song. Lockhart followed with “Golden Slumbers” by The Beatles.
The America’s Got Talent star's second performance received applause from all four judges. Audience members started chanting for a Golden Buzzer. Mel B addressed Lockhart directly, stating that she connected with her, then pressed the buzzer. This decision secured Lockhart’s place in the live rounds, which begin on August 19.
Journey from hardship to global stage
Lockhart has a long performance history, including international appearances and headlining shows for cruise lines. Her life began under challenging circumstances, including a period of homelessness.
While living in her car with her children, she competed in and won a local talent show in Arizona, which helped her start to rebuild her life. That initial success led to more opportunities, including a tribute act to Aretha Franklin that was sanctioned by Franklin's family and gained notoriety in Detroit and other major cities.
She continued to tour globally, visiting Japan with sold-out shows and headlining cruises. In 2021, she became the first artist to resume entertainment on the Celebrity Edge Cruise following pandemic reopenings, captivating global audiences throughout Europe and the Caribbean.
The America’s Got Talent star's act grew into one of the highest-rated performances on the ship, boosting her recognition in the live music scene. Outside of music, Lockhart is active in outreach efforts related to homelessness and single-parent advocacy.
After buying her first home in Ohio, she dedicated the property to support families transitioning from homelessness. She also collaborates with nonprofit organizations to offer educational sessions and resources for individuals facing similar challenges.
