Love Island Australia returned for its sixth season, premiering on October 28, 2024, exclusively on 9Now. This popular reality dating show brings together a group of contestants, known as Islanders, who reside in a luxurious villa in Mallorca, with the ultimate goal of finding romance and winning $50,000.
One such contestant who succeeded in winning both was Tyra Johannes. She won Love Island Australia season 5 with her now boyfriend Kale Roberts. On November 28, 2024, she replied to body shamers on her now-expired Instagram stories. During her getaway in Bali, Tyra took time to address some hurtful comments.
One follower sparked outrage by commenting that Tyra looked pregnant in one of her holiday photos. Tyra responded, emphasizing that such comments are completely unacceptable.
Tyra also shared another comment from an anonymous user, criticizing her weight. She stood firm, asserting that body shaming is never acceptable. Tyra confidently declared that while others are spreading hate, she'll continue to enjoy her vacation and indulge in good food.
"Just a PSA, it's actually not okay to comment things like this," wrote Tyra in her story.
Love Island Australia star Tyra appreciated her fans' support on Instagram
After calling out the haters, Tyra then expressed gratitude to her supporters, who stood by her in tough times. She posted another story showering them with love and appreciation.
"To all my hype girls and guys – I love you the absolute most. Sending love," wrote Tyra.
The 24-year-old reality TV star won season 5 of Love Island Australia in 2023 alongside her boyfriend, Kale Roberts. 9Now reported that the couple celebrated their one-year anniversary in September and were eagerly looking forward to welcoming a new cavoodle puppy, Cali. She jokingly described this breed as the quintessential Gold Coast dog.
In an interview with 9Entertainment in September 2024, Love Island Australia star Tyra reflected on her show journey. She also shared details about how she and Kale celebrated their anniversary. After Kale returned from a bachelor party, the couple enjoyed a romantic dinner and wine, creating a memorable evening together.
In the same interview, Tyra described the past year as a tremendous learning experience. She expressed astonishment at how much her life has transformed, from working a 9-to-5 job in procurement and accounting to navigating the world of social media influencing.
Tyra attributed her ability to cope with the pressures of her new lifestyle to Kale's stabilizing influence. She credited him with being her rock, someone who helps keep her grounded amidst the chaos of the outside world.
“It has been crazy, a whole year is absolutely insane to me. A year ago, I was working 9 to 5 in procurement and accounts. Now I’m navigating this whole influencer scene and social media world,” stated Tyra.
Previously, in a podcast titled Back To Reality on May 22, 2024, the couple talked about getting matching tattoos. The sentimental tattoos featured each other's initials behind their ears.
During the show, Tyra's brother asked Kale if he would consider getting Tyra's name tattooed on him. Kale's response at the time was that he wasn't sure about getting her name, but he was open to finding an alternative way to symbolize their commitment.
In a Q&A session on Instagram in April 2024, Love Island Australia star Tyra shared some intimate details about their life together. She revealed that one of the first things they did after leaving the villa was introduce Kale to her parents. They also celebrated with a fun-filled evening, complete with mimosas and a reunion with co-star Reid.
As previously mentioned, the winners of Love Island Australia Kale and Tyra took home a cash prize of $50,000. Tyra used her share of the winnings to pay off credit card debt and save for the future, while Kale invested in a new car. Tyra has also been dropping hints about the couple's future plans.
She teased a trip to an American country music festival in the new year, where they'll reunite with fellow Islander Andy Cosgrove.
