Longtime host Pat Sajak appeared in his final episode of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune on June 10, 2025. The segment, co-hosted with Vanna White, marked the end of the Emmy-winning star's journey on the game show. At the end of the episode, Pat bid farewell to the ABC competitive series, saying:
"See you next time for more Celebrity Wheel of Fortune."
The statement left netizens and fans of the show confused, as they wondered if it was a hint at his potential return to the platform. However, it was not. On May 13, 2025, ABC Entertainment issued a press release confirming Ryan Seacrest's hosting duties on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.
The American Idol host, who took over Pat's role in the syndicated version of the series in season 42, will now debut as the host in season 6 of the Celebrity version as well. Season 6 is scheduled to air in the fall of 2025. However, an official release date is yet to be announced.
"I hope they'll take a close look at my proposed primetime series" — Celebrity Wheel of Fortune star Pat Sajak joked during his last appearance on the show
Pat announced his retirement as the veteran host of the competition series in 2023 and spun the wheel on the syndicated main series in 2024 for the last time. After five seasons, he took his leave from the Celebrity version as well. However, before taking his leave, he joked about continuing his association with ABC.
"I want to thank ABC for the opportunity to host season 5 of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune. I hope they'll take a close look at my proposed primetime series, Sajak Senior Secret Agent," Pat joked.
Vanna, who has co-hosted the series alongside Pat for 41 years, agreed, saying, "Sounds like a winner."
The June 10 episode proceeded as usual, featuring Broadway stars Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Bernadette Peters as the contestants. The participants put their best foot forward; however, it was Jesse who ultimately won and took home $59,300 for his charity, No Kid Hungry by Share Our Strength.
At the end of the episode, the celebrity contestants, as well as the hosts, all took to the stage to bid the longtime star a final farewell.
78-year-old Pat announced his retirement from the main series in June 2023, four decades after his debut in 1981. In a post shared on his social media at the time, Pat said:
"I've decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It's been a wonderful ride, and I'll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it'll keep the clickbait sites busy!)"
Pat then moved on and collaborated with his longtime friend and KHON-TV Hawaii anchor, Joe Moore, to create a stage production of Prescription: Murder. The play was eventually adapted into the pilot episode of Columbo.
During his closing statement in the main series, Pat praised his co-host Vanna, saying he shuddered to think what "these 40-plus years might have been like" had someone "full of themselves" been part of the show instead of Vanna.
"Vanna is as sweet and unassuming as she seems. We've seen a lot of changes in each other's lives over the years but we've always been there for each other," he added.
Vanna, while speaking to Men's Journal in April 2025, opened up about hosting Celebrity Wheel of Fortune without Pat. She admitted it would be a "huge transition," having worked with Pat for the past 41 years. However, she was excited to share the stage with Ryan, whom she advised to be himself.
In an interview with ABC7 on June 3, 2025, Ryan confessed he felt a "tremendous amount of pressure" stepping into Pat's shoes. However, he was "thrilled" that the "loyal audience" accepted his addition.
Celebrity Wheel of Fortune episodes are available to stream on Hulu.
