The annual award ceremony was held on June 8, 2025, at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, who won a Tony Award for her performance in The Color Purple, was the host for the evening.

For those unversed, the play The Picture of Dorian Gray was penned by the Australian writer Kip Williams, based on Oscar Wilde's 1891 philosophical fiction and Gothic horror novel. Eryn Jean Norvill was the first actress to appear in the one-person play.

Sarah Snook has been winning hearts with her performances for over a decade now. One of her most popular roles is Shiv Roy from the hit HBO drama series Succession, which aired from 2018 to 2024.

In 2024, Sarah Snook returned to the West End, taking on all 26 roles in the Sydney Theatre Company’s production of The Picture of Dorian Gray. Earlier this year, the play transferred to Broadway, marking her debut on the New York stage.

For her astounding performance, she has not only won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play, but also the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress.

While studying at Sydney’s National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), Sarah Snook performed in stage productions such as Gallipoli and Macbeth. After graduating in 2008, she went on to appear in King Lear with South Australia’s leading theater company.

Snook earned further recognition for her performances in Australian projects such as Not Suitable for Children and Predestination. After switching to the American entertainment industry, she continued gaining success and returned to the theater in 2016 with her West End debut in a revival of Henrik Ibsen's play The Master Builder.

According to The New York Post report published on June 8, 2025, during her Laurence Olivier Award acceptance speech in April 2024, Sarah Snook opened up about how she felt about the play. She recalled that a month before the opening, she felt distant from the play and had not even learned her lines. She continued:

"I just felt, ‘What am I doing? Why am I doing a 60,000 word monologue with an eight-month-old baby?’ I felt so stupid. So I was doing a lot of night breastfeeding. And in the evening when I would wake up then rather than being on my phone and feeding her, I would run over the lines. I find that if you learn your lines at night and then sleep on them they do go in more effectively."

On the personal front, Snook welcomed her first baby with husband Dave Lawson in May 2023. The couple began dating in 2020 and tied the knot a year later in the backyard of the actress's house in Brooklyn.

Besides the Laurence Olivier Award and Tony Award, Snook has also won a Primetime Emmy Award for her performance in the comedy-drama series Succession. She is still close with her co-stars from the show and is also the godmother of Kieran Culkin's son.
