Claims of a new Sopranos series starring Michael Gandolfini have started going viral after a poster for the same started doing the rounds on social media. The poster being shared claims that Soprano’s new series will be brought by Max Originals and will release in January 2025.

As per the poster shared on Facebook by YODA BBY ABY, the series will have 10 episodes. The post states:

“SOPRANO SERIES - MICHAEL GANDOLFINI!!! Witness 10 episodes set in the gritty streets of late 1980s Newark, SOPRANO follows a young Tony Soprano as he rises through the ranks of the mob under the watchful eye of his mentor, Paulie Gualtieri. Struggling with family obligations and the lure of organized crime, Tony forms a tight-knit crew, including his childhood friend Silvio Dante. David Chase masterfully captures the origins of an iconic mob boss in this compelling prequel to The Sopranos, coming soon to MAX.”

It is also worth noting that the Facebook page reported that Michael Gandolfini will be the lead in the show. He is the son of James Gandolfini, the actor who played the lead in the iconic show. Michael played a younger version of Tony in the 2021 prequel film The Many Saints of Newark.

Since no claims of the series being made have been confirmed by the makers or the actors, the news about the series coming to Max Originals is fake and untrue. It is worth noting that the poster being shared is either fan-made or AI-generated, as no such poster has been officially released.

The Sopranos, a crime drama TV series, started airing on January 10, 1999, and ran a total of six seasons, consisting of 86 episodes, until June 10, 2007. The series starred James Gandolfini, Lorraine Bracco, Edie Falco, Michael Imperiolo, Dominic Chianese, Steven Van Zandt, and even Tony Sirico.

New Soprano series starring James Gandolfini is not releasing in 2025: Fake news debunked

The popular series has many fans, not only in the USA but globally. Hence, the popularity has given birth to the claim that the series is coming back after many years in 2025. However, the claims are false and hold no truth. This is also because of the introduction of the Facebook user, YODA BBY ABY states:

“I'm just here to eat frogs, lift rocks and be satirical. The page is 100% satire and fake news.”

Furthermore, the page does not only have the fake poster of the series but of many other films and series, including Mrs. Doubtfire, The Night Before Christmas, F.R.I.E.N.D.S, and even Supernatural. However, none of these series or movies are being remade or releasing any sequels as of writing.

Many social media users fell prey to the false claims of a new Soprano series and started reacting to the news of the series' release in 2025. The post has received more than 31,000 likes, along with thousands of comments.

Since more than 10,000 people have already shared the poster, it is worth noting that one should always check the source and verify the authenticity of the news before sharing it further so that it does not mislead the masses.
