Amy Robach, the American television reporter, recently opened up about the next steps of her relationship with former Good Morning America co-anchor T.J. Holmes.

On Sunday, April 21, 2024, the pair released the latest episode of their Amy & T.J. podcast, where they said they are undecided about getting married. The 51-year-old Robach said that she wants a “life partner” in Holmes. The couple then began talking about marriage and the legal binding involved in it, at which point, Amy noted:

"It's a security blanket, but it's a false security blanket. It’s a lot harder to break up when you’re married. And so when you go through the tough times or something really bad happens or something really hard happens, it’s so much easier to walk away if there’s nothing that you have to settle legally."

The reporter explained that the difficulty of marriage and divorce is "not the reason why I want to stay with somebody," adding that with tying the knot there is a notion and "there’s this sense of security, ‘Well, it’s an extra hard thing so maybe we’ll both stick it out.’"

The pair revealed that moving in together was more of a priority for them right now.

Amy Robach says she and T.J. Holmes are still figuring out marriage, but have "absolutely agreed to commit"

Amy Robach was a part of Good Morning America from May 2012 until March 2020. She and GMA3 co-anchor T.J. Holmes began dating around August 2022 and went public with their relationship in November of the same year.

On Sunday, the pair spoke on the topic of marriage in their podcast. Amy Robach first mentioned their indecision about walking down the aisle, saying:

"I think we’re still deciding about, just, what that level of commitment is, whether it’s legal or not, but that’s still up for debate. But mentally, emotionally, we’ve absolutely agreed to commit to each other…We haven’t figured the marriage thing out yet. We haven't decided whether or not we are going to officially get married."

T.J. Holmes then seemed confused by his girlfriend’s comments and asked her what she meant by "haven’t figured it out?". He inquired if she meant she was still deciding about their marriage, to which, Amy Robach replied, "Correct."

However, the couple then shared that they are currently focused on moving in together. Amy said in this regard:

"But we have, I have said this to you, and I believe you've said it to me as well that I want to be with you for the rest of my life, and I would like to live with you when the time comes. It doesn't have to be today or tomorrow or next year, but I would eventually like to live with you."

The couple's conversation then took an interesting turn while discussing the difference between commitment in a legal agreement of marriage or a relationship without one.

When Holmes asked if being a "life partner" was possible without tying the knot, Amy brought up the 40-year relationship of Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn as an example, saying:

"You can. I'm sure and I know it's not perfect. But I've always been in awe of the fact that every day they wake up and they choose to be together, there's no legal [sic] binding document that says they have to be together."

T.J. Holmes seemed to agree with Amy Robach's response, and added that he feels it’s “almost a stronger commitment to not get married because you can walk out tomorrow.”

In December 2023, the pair addressed their removal from GMA on the premiere episode of their podcast. At the time, Holmes claimed they lost the jobs "we love because we love each other."

ABC News suspended Robach and Holmes on December 5, 2022.
