All seven episodes of Outer Range season 2 were released on Thursday, May 16, on Amazon Prime Video. The neo-Western sci-fi mystery show showcased some impactful scenes that left the viewers reeling.

Following a strong season 1 about a Wyoming family, the sophomore season is a provocative mashup of genres with a textured storyline and mysterious characters sprinkled in. That said, Outer Range season 2 dives even deeper into the show’s intersecting conspiracies.

As per Prime Video, the synopsis of the show’s sophomore season reads:

“Outer Range centers on Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin), a rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers a dark void at the end of Wyoming’s wilderness. The mystery surrounding the void pulls two families into an epic confrontation for the control of time itself.”

Outer Range season 2’s penultimate episode provides a surprising amount of information about the characters, especially regarding Amy’s fate.

In the end, the Abbotts didn't get Amy back as she was pushed into the void at the last minute. But several occasions in the finale lead to questions on her identity as well as the fate of others who went into the hole, including Perry.

Outer Range season 2: The Abbotts didn't get Amy back, Autumn succeeded in tossing her into the void

The action-packed Outer Range season 2 finale sees Autumn finally finding out that Amy is her younger self, which doesn’t do much to change her original warpath.

A premonition even convinced her further that, somehow, throwing her younger self (Amy) into the void would maintain the continuity of her life and secure the cycle that would bring her to the proverbial throne of Wabang.

If everyone’s premonitions are to be believed, Autumn I will form a cult in the future, where members are wearing yellow uniforms, and she will do everything to make that reality come true.

With that in mind, Autumn is even more determined to toss Amy into the hole and has planned to do just that. With her memory back, she knows exactly where to find Amy—at the Women’s Shelter where she’s staying with her long-lost mother Rebecca. From there, she blackmailed Rebecca into handing Amy over to her to be returned to the Abbot family.

But while the young Amy believed she would be returning to her grandparents, Autumn, together with Luke Tillerson, had different plans for her.

The real reason she took Amy from Rebecca is to throw her into the void, which is exactly what she managed to do despite Royal and Sheriff Joy attempting to derail her plan.

Outer Range season 2: Is Autumn really Amy?

At the season 1 finale, there was heavy speculation that Autumn is very much likely the “future” version of Amy. While Autumn initially refuted any connection to Amy at the beginning of Outer Range season 2, the penultimate episode confirmed the popular fan theory—Autumn Rivers is a grown-up version of Amy.

It’s all thanks to the scar Autumn and Amy share on their forehead that Royal finally connects the dots and realizes that he’s about to murder her own granddaughter. It’s also no coincidence that Amy is nine and Autumn had said she doesn’t have any memory of her past life before the age of nine.

Still skeptical of the idea with Royal’s only proof of evidence being the scar that both she and Amy share, she later comes into possession of the time dust.

It lets her get a glimpse into her past, and, like magic, her childhood memories come rushing back. Mystery solved—Autumn finally realizes that she really is Amy from the future.

The mystery around the sinkhole on the Abbott Ranch has been a hot topic of discussion among fans. Where does it lead? Does each jump lead to a different destination?

The season finale revealed where Amy ended up after getting tossed into the void. But she wasn't the only one who had entered the portal—there was also Perry whose whereabouts had remained unknown most of the series.

The end of season 1 sees Perry jumping into the hole to escape from his murder conviction, which started his time-traveling journey decades into the past. He eventually ended up back at the Abbot Ranch, only in the 1980s when his father, Royal, was still young.

In the Outer Range season 2 finale, Royal pushed Perry back into the hole in 1984, but his would-be son didn’t return to the present timeline. Instead, he ended up at the start of Outer Range season 1, just a few weeks before his initial departure and just a few short hours before his past self accidentally killed Trevor Tillerson.

He came just in time to try to fix things and prevent his past self from beating, and eventually, killing Trevor.

The consequence, however, was that he caused his own death. The time-traveler and older Perry, in his quest to prevent the murder, shouted out to try and stop things, which distracted the younger Perry.

Plot twist, Trevor ended up punching the younger version of Perry, which caused him to faint and crack his head on the pavement.

In a twisted turn of events, Perry finds himself dragging his own corpse to the void, exchanging clothes with him, and eventually, disposing of the dead body into the hole.

Outer Range season 2 may have answered some of the lingering questions from the show’s freshman season, but with a storyline that’s so out there and with cool plot twists, viewers are left with more questions than answers.

The mystery of Autumn and Amy’s connection is finally solved. Autumn’s storyline remains the same: Young Amy, now called Autumn who doesn’t remember past the age of nine grows up in a rich adoptive family before showing up to camp at the Abbott Ranch in season 1 episode 1.

For one, Perry’s path has changed, which means an alternate reality that could change plenty of the aspects of the storyline of the present time.

Without the murder charge, the ranch won’t be put up for bail, which means a lot of the drama might be prevented. That said, the rules of time travel remain a mystery.
