Prime Video released the show's official trailer on June 10, 2025. The series will comprise 10 episodes, all of which will be released simultaneously on the streaming platform. Actress Maggie Q was confirmed to lead the series as Detective Renée Ballard on March 21, 2024. She was first introduced to fans in the season 3 finale of Bosch: Legacy, which aired on April 17, 2025.

The character is based on Michael Connelly's book series about LAPD detective Harry Bosch. In July 2024, the author revealed on his Instagram account that Detective Mitzi Roberts is the real-life inspiration behind the lead character. Furthermore, Variety reported on May 9, 2024, that Jet Wilkinson will direct the first two episodes of the series.

Sarah Boyd, Jon Huertas, and Tori Garrett were brought in to direct the remaining episodes, which Kendall Sherwood wrote. Filming for the series began on July 22, 2024, at Venice Beach and concluded in November of the same year. The show's official logline states:
