On Friday, WNBA fans reacted after the ticket prices for Sunday's Indiana Fever–Chicago Sky game dropped sharply, following Caitlin Clark's injury-related absence. The Fever-Sky matchup has drawn high prices since last season.
According to Legion Hoops' post on X, the ticket prices for the game had reached $7 on TickPick. Last year, average resale prices reached $386 when Clark and Reese met, the Chicago Tribune reported.
WNBA fans shared their thoughts on the steep price decrease.
"Take a walk with me into the conspiracy corner," a fan wrote. "Caitlin Clark ain't really that hurt. This is all a power play to show that she's the only thing to see in the WNBA. Fever v Sky, Fever v Liberty.... nothing matters until she gets back."
A fan posted a viral video of Angel Reese from last season when she said that fans came to watch her as well.
Some fans questioned the impact of Reese on ticket prices.
"what about angel bricks?"
"BUT I THOUGHT PEOPLE WANNA WATCH ANGEL BRICKS TOO? 💀," another fan wrote.
One fan made fun of the Reese-Clark comparison.
"But but but, I keep hearing that Reese has as many fans as CC 😂😂😂."
However, there were some fans who questioned the loyalty of the Fever fanbase.
"An injured player is out?..where are the real-true fans…I watch games other than the team in Indiana and looks to me like people are attending …but nice to see cost effective tickets."
A fan took a shot at Reese.
"That's so weird, I heard Angel has all these followers on social media.... You mean they're not actual basketball fans? Oh."
Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever has dominated Angel Reese's Chicago Sky
Sunday's game marks the first time one of the stars will be inactive when the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky meet. The rivalry has been intense, but the Fever have dominated recent matchups.
Last season, the teams met four times, with Angel Reese's Sky winning just once against Caitlin Clark's Fever. In this year's season opener, the Fever defeated the Sky 93-58.
Clark has outperformed Reese in their five meetings, averaging 20.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 10.0 assists and 1.2 blocks. Reese has averaged 13.2 ppg, 14.0 rpg, 2.0 apg and 0.2 bpg in those games.
