Mr. McMahon tested out his punching power before his grueling battle with WWE Champion CM Punk.

The WWE is an organisation that goes to great lengths in order to protect its personnel as well as the life backstage. Sure, there are a bunch of backstage segments that are aired on television, but they’re quite staged and hardly offer anything remotely close to what actually happens behind the curtain.

But, every once in a while photos surface that offer a peek into what life is like for WWE stars and employees when the cameras stop rolling. With that in mind, we present to you Part 1 of 10 amazing backstage photos from Vince McMahon’s madhouse of sports entertainment:

#10) Vince McMahon

This is picture was taken prior to a match the owner of the WWE, Vince McMahon, had against CM Punk back when the Straight Edge Superstar was still in pro-wrestling. It offers a glimpse into the passion Vince has for the business, as well as his incredible work ethic and the kind of shape he has kept himself in, despite his old age.

#9) The Shield

Our backstage photographer spotted The Shield in mid-sprint before one of their surprise attacks.

The Shield – comprising of NXT graduates Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns – made an astounding impact on the main roster, taking out whoever they felt like, whenever they wanted to.

Their MO was to charge unsuspecting victims and lay them out. Here we see a shot of the trio as they make their way towards the ring to launch another of their gruesome beatdowns.

#8) WWE referees

Rogue referee Brad Maddox had the full attention of every WWE official as he explained his reprehensible attack on Ryback at Hell in a Cell 2012.

The WWE officials have one of the most thankless jobs in the company, despite their immense importance in making sure everything goes right. Thus, when referee Brad Maddox (on the TV screen) decided to get more involved in Ryback’s business, the WWE officials were suddenly the centre of attention.

This is a great picture of the rest of the refereeing team looking on as Maddox explained his actions against Ryback.

#7) Vince McMahon and the Prime Time Players

Darren Young tried to give Mr. McMahon some

Everyone knows that you don’t mess with Vince McMahon’s hair. It’s one of the unspoken rules in the WWE. After all, the owner makes a trip every two weeks to his favourite stylist to make sure his hair is exactly as he wants it.

So, what exactly were Darren Young and Titus O’Neill thinking when they decided to mess with Vince’s hair? Luckily, their boss seems to be taking it in good spirits. Although, looking at how their careers have gone since this might’ve been the reason.

#6) Daniel Bryan

This is one hell of a bittersweet picture. The sweet part is we see Daniel Bryan in the absolute prime of his “Respect the Beard” run where he enjoyed such incredible success and became the most popular superstar in the world.

The bitter part? Well, we’re reminded of a man who was forced into retirement much too early. Sure, it’s nice to see him on Smackdown Live as General Manager but it’s a shadow of seeing Bryan perform in the ring.

#5) Paul Heyman and CM Punk

Paul Heyman and CM Punk had a memorable run which included what many consider to be CM Punk’s best feud in the WWE – against the Undertaker. Punk made the feud extremely personal when he got involved in Taker’s homage to long-time manager, Paul Bearer.

This picture encapsulates how Punk pushed Taker’s buttons throughout their rivalry as in the midst of this epic feud, we see Punk and Heyman fooling around backstage with Bearer’s Urn.

#4) Cesaro

Something a lot of people seem to underestimate with Cesaro is just how powerful the guy is. The guy is probably the strongest person in the WWE locker room today, as evidenced by his ability to swing people around on a weekly basis like they’re his little playthings.

During his run as US Champion, Cesaro was photographed in the midst of some incredible – if unconventional – strength training.

#3) Alberto del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez

Alberto del Rio had a pretty successful run in the WWE, all things considered. He made a big splash after his debut and even won the World Title as well as the Royal Rumble. A big part of del Rio’s gimmick was, of course, his personal announcer – Ricardo Rodriguez.

The two were close friends and this picture shows off the lighter side of the two Mexicans during their time in the WWE.

#2) Edge and Santino Marella

This is a pretty fun picture because of two main reasons: The first is obviously the ever-entertaining Santino Marella. The master of the Cobra was, by all accounts, an extremely fun person backstage.

The second and more significant reason is seeing Edge back in the locker room after his forced retirement. There is nothing quite like seeing the Rated-R Superstar back in the WWE even if he can’t wrestle anymore.

#1) AJ Styles, Chris Jericho, and Mick Foley

Do I really need to say anything more about this picture? Seeing these three legends of the business sharing a laugh backstage is more than enough reason to include this on the list.
