It’s common for WWE fans to read social media posts from Superstars about American sports teams, but we very rarely see statuses about their favourite football/soccer clubs.

The biggest football fan on the WWE roster for many years appeared to be lifelong Preston North End supporter Stu Bennett, aka Bad News Barrett, with his love of the sport leading to a memorable segment with former England international Wayne Rooney in 2015.

However, with Barrett having left the company in 2016, we thought it was time to find out how many football fans are still around in WWE today.

So, from the well-known to the not-so-well-known, let’s take a look at 10 WWE Superstars and reveal which football team they support.

#10 Rusev supports Real Madrid

While WWE Superstars often post about American football on social media, Rusev can be found posting about football – Real Madrid, specifically – on a regular basis.

“The Bulgarian Brute” was given a tour of the club’s stadium, the Santiago Bernabeu, during WWE’s visit to Europe in November 2017, while he showed off a signed Zinedine Zidane shirt after Real’s historic 12th European Cup win last June.

#9 Cesaro supports FC Luzern

A simple online search will tell you that Cesaro supports Scottish club Rangers. However, it appears he only chose to support them once during a WWE European tour in November 2016 because Sheamus – his dysfunctional tag partner at the time – was wearing a shirt belonging to their Glasgow rivals, Celtic.

After further inspection, we found out that he actually follows Swiss Super League team FC Luzern. Asked by SB Nation in 2014 about his favourite sports team, he replied: “Swiss national football team. FC [football club]? I pick FC Luzern.”

#8 Sheamus supports Liverpool

Of all the football-supporting WWE Superstars out there, Sheamus is probably the most vocal about his love for the team that he supports: five-time European Cup winners Liverpool.

The Irishman, who also has a soft spot for Scottish club Celtic, has been a guest on British show 'Soccer AM' to discuss all things football, while he and Cesaro risked the wrath of Manchester United fans when they wore Liverpool shirts to a live event in Manchester in November 2017.

#7 Fandango supports Everton

Fandango's relationship with Everton had a rocky start

Remember the Raw after WrestleMania 29 when the WWE Universe were Fandango-ing all night long? Well, his theme music became so popular that it reached #11 in the iTunes chart and a large number of Everton fans asked the Premier League club to play it before their matches.

Initially, the Merseysiders refused, but Fandango wasn't backing down. He sent a series of tweets to them and they eventually agreed to play his music. The Fashion Police member now considers himself "a huge Everton fan".

#6 Drew McIntyre supports Rangers

Drew McIntyre has always been a huge Rangers fan

Drew McIntyre explained to STV in 2014 that he had two obsessions as a child: football and wrestling. He knew when he grew up that he'd either be a footballer for Scottish club Rangers or a WWE Superstar.

As a six-year-old, he and his brother received Celtic shirts – Rangers' arch-rivals – from their parents as a joke Christmas present. The joke didn't go down too well with Drew, who started crying, but his parents later made up for it when he received a signed shirt from Rangers legend Ally McCoist.

Considering their massive fanbase around the world, it's a little surprising that Killian Dain is the only Manchester United fan we could find on the current WWE roster.

The 6'4'' SAnitY member is a lifelong supporter of the Red Devils and he played as a goalkeeper for his university football team. He is also a fan of popular computer game Football Manager.

#4 Neville supports Newcastle United

He hasn't appeared on WWE programming since October 2017 but technically Neville is still a WWE Superstar, so he qualifies for this list.

"The King of the Cruiserweights" was born in Newcastle upon Tune and never misses an opportunity to return to St James' Park, the home of Newcastle United, whenever he gets chance to visit the United Kingdom.

#3 Triple H supports West Ham United

Triple H has even given the players a pep talk

Triple H has vaguely explained in the past that he supports Premier League club West Ham United because "the passion of their fanbase and their loyalty" resembles WWE.

In reality, we suspect it's for the simple reason that West Ham are nicknamed the Hammers and he uses a sledgehammer in his matches, while the club's crossed-arm gesture is similar to the one that D-Generation X used many years ago.

Whatever the reason, "The Game" seems to know quite a bit about "the beautiful game" and he even delivered a pre-season pep talk to his beloved club at the start of the 2017-18 campaign.

Finn Balor has supported Tottenham since he was 8 years old

With no off-season and just one day off per week, the lifestyle of a WWE Superstar is pretty hectic at times. However, on the plus side, it can give performers opportunities that they otherwise wouldn't have gotten, like the chance to meet their heroes.

In 2017, Finn Balor was able to meet Tottenham legend Ledley King during the club's pre-season tour of America, and the Irishman said he was more nervous meeting the former England international than he was meeting some of his wrestling idols.

The first-ever Universal champion has also featured in videos for Spurs' YouTube channel, including one where he went one-on-one with Mousa Dembele in a game of Guess Who?!

#1 John Cena 'supports' Tottenham Hotspur

When WWE visits the United Kingdom twice per year, the company often sends Superstars to various different Premier League stadiums. In 2008, John Cena was sent to Tottenham's White Hart Lane ground and, for that reason, it is often presumed that the 16-time WWE World champion supports the north London club.

In actual fact, Cena never got to see Spurs play, but he did say that he was "taken aback by the passion of the sport" during his tour of the stadium.
