10 Interesting WrestleMania facts that might surprise you

The
The more you know

WWE WrestleMania is still the biggest wrestling event of the entire year, after 33 highly successful years. The event has staged some of the biggest, greatest and most memorable moments in WWE history, and with that also comes a lot of crazy occurrences.

WrestleMania is a long history that has led to some really interesting statistics, but also many crazy and random ones that many fans don't even realize. Here are ten of such.

#10 Over 1 Million fans have attended

Platin
Platinum live audience

Yes, since it's inception, more than 1 Million fans have attended WrestleMania live and in person. Recent reports have stated that the accurate number of attendees over the years is at around 1.6 Million.

Although it has been 33 years since the first WrestleMania, the 1.6 Million number is surprisingly high when you consider that there have been a few WrestleMania's to have just about 20,000 in attendance.

In fact, it has only been every year since WrestleMania 23 in 2007 that stadiums have hosted the event every year, continuously. Before that, WrestleMania only saw stadiums for a couple years running before reverting to regular 25,000, or so, seated venues.

#9 Longest WrestleMania Match

1 hour
1 hour of intensity

Without a doubt one of, if not the most polarizing match in history, fans either think it is one of the greatest matches of all time or one of the most boring.

Michaels and Hart worked very hard in this match. It was technical, with brawls and high flying moves and having the match go into overtime only increased its heat. This match was so good that it is a shame Michaels allegedly faked an injury to get out of losing to Hart in a rematch the following year.

The match happened in 1996 and to this day, still remains the longest match in WrestleMania history, due in large part to it being an Iron Man. Considering WrestleMania is at least four hours long every year (pushing five sometimes), it is a little surprising that WWE haven't attempted to break this record in recent years.

#8 Shortest WrestleMania Match

Shor
Short but sweet

There had been a lot of speculation on if The Rock would get physical at all when he was the host of WrestleMania 32 in 2016. As it turns out, he did, for a few seconds at least.

In an impromptu match, Rock challenged the Wyatt Family, which Bray had Erick Rowan accept. Rock quickly hit a Rock Bottom and pinned Erick in six seconds, setting the new record for shortest match, which was previously held by Kane and Chavo Guerrero, who had an 11-second match at WrestleMania 24.

This wasn't WWE's first attempt to break this record, they also tried to break it at WrestleMania 2012 with Sheamus and Daniel Bryan, but the referee rang the bell before he was supposed to, and Bryan's kiss with AJ Lee took away from the record.

#7 WrestleMania on a Monday

You don't always have to hate Mondays
You don't always have to hate Mondays

It goes hand in hand, doesn't it? A WWE pay-per-view and a Sunday night. Especially a WrestleMania and a Sunday night, but it wasn't like this all of the time. As crazy as it sounds today, WrestleMania 2 took place on a Monday.

WrestleMania 2 was an experimental event for Vince McMahon. Not only did it take place on a Monday, but it also happened at three different venues in three different cities, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. The event was a lot of work and it taking place on a Monday did worse rather than better, so it has remained strictly on a Sunday ever since.

#6 Undertaker disposes Evolution

Evol
Evolution was no mystery for the Deadman

The Undertaker had what will remain as the greatest streak in all of WrestleMania history and perhaps in WWE history, with currently standing at 23 - 2.

Not long after the streak entered double digits, Triple H formed the dominant stable Evolution, with Ric Flair, Randy Orton and Batista, and all four of these men have fallen to the phenom at WrestleMania. Ric Flair became victim number 10, losing to The Undertaker in a Street Fight at WrestleMania X8. Randy Orton fell to him at WrestleMania 21.

The interesting thing about that match was that The Undertaker apparently suggested that he lose to Orton, but was vetoed by Vince McMahon. In one of his all-time best Mania matches, Taker defeated Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 23.

The leader of Evolution, Triple H, has actually fallen victim to The Undertaker at three different WrestleMania's. First at WrestleMania X - Seven, then in a Street Fight 10 years later at WrestleMania XXVII, and then one year later in a Hell in A Cell match at WrestleMania XXVIII.

#5 Trish Stratus still has most Women's matches

St
Stratusfaction lasts forever

As crazy as it sounds especially with how much women are in the limelight in WWE today, WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus still holds the record for a woman competing at the most WrestleMania's in her career, with just five. She also made non-wrestling appearances at WrestleMania's 16, 17, 20 and 29.

With the Women's Revolution in full swing and superstars such as Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Bayley, Sasha Banks, Asuka and more going to be competing on the big stage for many years to come, I can only imagine Trish's record will be broken sooner rather than later.

#4 Mr. WrestleMania Streak

Mover
Mover over, Undertaker

As mentioned earlier, The Undertaker had what will remain as the greatest streak in all of WrestleMania history, with it currently standing at 23 - 2. With The Undertaker now having lost at WrestleMania, there are a few more that currently have undefeated streaks at the grandest stage of them all, and none higher, pun intended, then Rob Van Dam.

While some current and former WWE stars have WrestleMania records standing at 1 - 0 or 2 - 0, Rob Van Dam's WrestleMania record currently stands at 4 - 0. RVD would defeat William Regal at his first WrestleMania at WrestleMania X8 for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, he retained the World Tag Team Championship with Booker T at WrestleMania 20, won the Money in The Bank Ladder match at WrestleMania 22 and teamed with Sabu, Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman to defeat the New Breed at WrestleMania 23.

RVD's WrestleMania record should have been higher even, as he was originally scheduled to team up with Kane at WrestleMania XIX in 2003 to defeat the Dudley Boyz and Tag Team Champions Lance Storm and Val Venis for the Tag Team titles.

However, due to time constraints over a Limp Bizkuit performance and Miller Light Cat Fight segments, the match was moved to RAW the following night. RVD and Kane did lose to Storm and Venis on the pre-show before WrestleMania began, but that counted as Sunday Night Heat, not WrestleMania.

#3 Goldust: 0 - 11

Most
Most matches, no wins

Goldust does not have the most losses ever at a WrestleMania, but he does have the most losses at a WrestleMania without ever winning a match. Including WrestleMania pre-shows, Goldust has lost at 11 WrestleMania's, with his most recent being at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando.

Goldust has lost both high profile matches, such as WrestleMania 12 with Rowdy Roddy Piper, and lower case matches such as a pre-show battle royal. I actually find this a major shame, 22 years later and Dustin Rhodes is still portraying his Goldust character on WWE TV every week.

His is a character that most critics believed wouldn't last his first year, and therefore I think he has always deserved to have his golden arm raised in victory at least once at WrestleMania. Will he turn things around at WrestleMania 34? Maybe... but probably not.

#2 Triple H has lost at Most WrestleMania

Game
Game Over

Goldust may have lost most times at WrestleMania without getting a victory, but it is actually WWE COO Triple H who has the most losses ever on the grandest stage of them all.

To date, Triple H's WrestleMania record stands at 9 - 12. Yes, a man who many consider being the most overrated superstar in the history of WWE has lost 12 times at WrestleMania. While Triple H has taken in some impressive wins over the like of The Rock, Chris Jericho, Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar, he has also fallen to the like of The Ultimate Warrior, Batista, Roman Reigns and even three times to The Undertaker.

Ironically, despite his losing record, if you were to debate any matches in his career that he should have lost, most would point out his Mania matches with Booker T at WrestleMania XIX and Sting at WrestleMania 31. Even in his record losses, he is still taking in wins he didn't need.

#1 WrestleMania X8 featured more WCW legends

C
Could have been better?

Back at WrestleMania X - Seven in 2001, no one could ever have imagined the kind of names that would be competing at WrestleMania X8 the following year, particularly the former big WCW names.

The card featured the like of the original NWO, Ric Flair, Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page and others. However, WWE had actually reached out to more former WWE/WCW stars to appear at the SkyDome in Toronto, Ontario Canada on March 17, 2002.

WWE was in serious negotiations with Sting, in early 2002. Apparently, WWE officials felt so positive he would sign in time for WrestleMania X8, that they planned on having a dream match between him and Kurt Angle.

however, talks fell through and Kurt Angle would face Kane instead in a very rushed feud, Sting and Kurt would later have several exciting matches in TNA Wrestling between 2007 and 2011 and it would be a further 13 years + after these initial negotiations, that Sting would sign with WWE.

Stone Cold Steve Austin faced Scott Hall. Surprisingly, even though it involved Austin, the match felt like just another mid-card match, despite that it was pretty good for what they could get out of 10 minutes.

According to Scott Steiner, he negotiated with WWE to return in early 2002 in time for WrestleMania X8, where the plan was for him and Austin to face the NWO in a tag team match, but Steiner claims he wasn't offered enough money and declined. He eventually signed later that year.

Perhaps the most surprising story to come out of the plans for WrestleMania X8 were the plans that involved Bret Hart, mainly because this would be the first time since before Survivor Series 1997 that Bret would be offered a deal by WWE. Bret was still retired at the time so he wouldn't have been competing, but WWE had other big plans for the Hit Man.

Triple H had been feuding with Vince McMahon at the time on TV, as well as Chris Jericho and Stephanie McMahon. The rumoured idea at the time was that Vince would interfere during the main event and attempt a screw-job finish to the match while Jericho would've had the Walls of Jericho locked in.

Bret would then emerge from the entrance ramp with his theme music and appearance provoking a huge pop from the Toronto audience and then clock Vince with a punch, preventing him from ending the match. Following that, Bret officiated the rest of the match itself.

Bret was also offered two other scenarios, to punch Vince in the face during an in-ring promo, or to be announced as the special enforcer for the main event on the prior episode of RAW. Apparently, he actually considered all offers before he ultimately decided he would be too uncomfortable.
