WWE management didn't know what they were getting when they signed Braun Strowman. Initially, they wished to use him in a gatekeeper role, much like Kane has done for years. A gatekeeper is a wrestler who is booked strongly but never in the world title picture who mid carders have to 'beat' in order to be elevated to the main event.

However, Braun Strowman did the impossible and got over with the crowd, who love their big, hairy, violent giant. If WWE pushed Braun to the top of the card he might be a good replacement for Reigns.
