Kevin Owens' US title reign gave birth to his "New Face of America" gimmick

Kevin Owens became a “Triple Crown” champion after winning the US Championship from his former best friend Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 33. Owens then portrayed the “New Face of America” gimmick on WWE TV.

He had a memorable feud with Y2J and the Phenomenal AJ Styles for the title. He lost his championship to Jericho at Payback only to win it back 2 nights later on SmackDown.

AJ Styles ended his second reign by defeating the Prizefighter at a House Show in Madison Square Garden. KO won his title back in a screwy finish at WWE Battleground and lost it again on SmackDown Live to AJ Styles in a triple threat match also involving Chris Jericho.

The former NXT Champion became the first superstar in a long time to have lost his title at a live event. However, since leaving SmackDown Live, Owens has received lackluster booking from WWE Creative on the flagship show.
