10 WrestleMania matches that shouldn't have ended how they did

WrestleMania,
WrestleMania. The grandest stage of them all.Why did it have to end like this?

That's the question that fans sometimes have to ask themselves after a controversial outcome in a match and while The WWE has been known to make the right decision from time to time, there are other instances where they don't. Unfortunately for The WWE Universe, a lot of these poor decisions come at WrestleMania have come at WrestleMania.

With that being said, there are obviously some WrestleMania matches that fans would probably want a do-over on and for good reason. Sure, going back and fixing these mistakes is impossible, but wouldn't it be great if WWE didn't make these ten booking mistakes at WrestleMania?

#10 Dean Ambrose vs Brock Lesnar: WrestleMania 32

Dean Ambrose, Brock Lesnar,
Brock Lesnar driving Dean Ambrose into the corner

It is no secret that Dean Ambrose is sometimes treated as the redheaded stepchild of The Shield and while Ambrose has had his time in the Championship picture over the years, he has yet to have the kind of crowning WrestleMania moment that his Shield brethren have had in their short time in singles competition.

It looked like WWE was ready to remedy that with a match between Brock Lesnar and Dean Ambrose at WrestleMania 32, especially since a win for Ambrose would mean he was the first superstar to beat Lesnar after he beat the streak at WrestleMania 30, but WWE decided to give Lesnar the win instead.

Sure, WWE made Ambrose look semi-tough in defeat during the match, even making Lesnar hit Ambrose with multiple F-5's to finish him off, but it still was a huge letdown for fans hoping to see Ambrose finally have his moment. Not only that, the match did next to nothing for Ambrose moving forward either.

Then again, it's not exactly fair to label this match as a complete failure. In fact, Ambrose lasting as long as he did in the match was one of the factors used to build him up as WWE Champion later that year, but a win over Lesnar probably would have been a much better way to do that too.

#9 AJ Lee and Paige vs The Bella Twins: WrestleMania 31

Paige, AJ Lee,

Let's keep this one short, sweet and to the point.

Although a lot of fans will probably disagree with the assessment that The Bella Twins should have won the match, it was really shortsighted booking for WWE to hand a win to someone that would be retiring the next night anyway. Of course, there is speculation that no one in WWE knew about that and that's probably the only reason that this outcome happened.

With that being said, WWE should have had Paige pick up the deciding fall for the team, which would have at least boosted her star power and future chances for the Women's title, but for some reason, they ultimately decided to have Nikki Bella tap out to The Black Widow locked in by AJ Lee instead.

This seemed pretty short-sighted, and not a great way to book the Women's division either. It honestly looked like WWE was so caught up in their love for AJ Lee that they were willing to sacrifice the rest of The Women's roster in favour of The Black Widow. Unfortunately for The WWE, it backfired on them when she retired the very next night.

#8 Randy Orton vs The Undertaker: WrestleMania 21

The Undertaker, Randy Orton,
Undertaker vs Randy Orton. One of the biggest mistakes of all time!

The streak should have ended years ago!

In fact, it probably should have happened at WrestleMania 21 when The Undertaker took on Randy Orton, but WWE still decided to have The Undertaker go over in the end. While it was an understandable position given the fact that the streak was still one of the biggest box office draws for The Show of Shows, Orton still would have been the best candidate to end it.

Of course, a lot of fans are probably not going to agree with that assessment, especially since Randy Orton was the overly cocky, legend killer at the time, but he was still a fast-rising star and was the best candidate in a long time to actually beat the streak. He was young, amazing in the ring and would be one of the company's golden boys for a long time.

Unfortunately for Randy Orton, fate had a strange way of working out and The Undertaker ended up keeping his streak going for another nine years. Again, WWE probably made the right decision from a box office standpoint, but the future of WWE would have been a lot more interesting if Orton had beaten Undertaker at WrestleMania 21.

#7 Bayley versus Charlotte versus Nia Jax versus Sasha Banks: WrestleMania 33

Bayley,
The Hugger, Bayley, making her way to the ring.

Nothing about this match worked.

The first problem with this match was the fact that WWE was trying to build up Bayley as the future of The Women's division. While this idea worked like a charm back in NXT, where Bayley's Hugger gimmick was beloved by the smaller crowds, it became kind of corny once she reached the main roster.

Another problem with the match was the fact that Bayley had already been Charlotte's undefeated pay per view streak a month earlier to win The Women's championship for the first time in her career, which meant that WWE wouldn't be able to go with their same cut and paste underdog story at WrestleMania.

In the end, Bayley probably should have lost the title to Nia Jax or Sasha Banks, which would have been a much better outcome then to watch one of the most one-dimensional wrestlers in years retain the title. Not only that, the outcome was utterly predictable and was quickly swept under the rug the next month when Alexa Bliss beat Bayley for the title.

#6 Charlotte versus Becky Lynch versus Sasha Banks: WrestleMania 32

Charlotte Flair,
Charlotte Flair walking out of WrestleMania 32 with The Women's title.

This match had the same problems as the one listed in the last slide but was made even worse by the fact that Charlotte retained the title in this one. Sure, Charlotte technically vacated The Women's title before being presented with The Raw Women's title after the match, but the result did absolutely nothing for Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks.

In fact, it only gave truth to the rumours that Vince McMahon wasn't a huge Sasha Banks fan and would not be giving her The WrestleMania moment that she so rightly deserved. That's not to say that Charlotte didn't deserve a WrestleMania moment of her own, but she had been carrying The Divas title for months at that point and would have still looked strong in defeat.

In the end, this is just one of those that you kinda wish WWE would do over again and do what was best for business this time. Maybe Charlotte was the right option from an overall standpoint, especially given her legacy, her inhuman ability inside the ring and her charisma, but Sasha Banks had all the momentum in the world heading into that match.

#5 Miss WrestleMania Battle Royal: WrestleMania 25

Santino Marella,
Santina Marella being crowned Miss WrestleMania at WrestleMania 25.

This match was a disaster from beginning to end regardless of who won it, but WWE decided to put one more nail in the coffin by allowing a cross-dressing Santino Marella to win The 25 Woman Battle Royal and become Miss WrestleMania. Not only did this make The Divas division look like a joke, it also hurt several of the company's top stars.

Imagine what a title like Miss WrestleMania would have done for a superstar that actually deserved the title! Sure, it might have still been a throwaway match in the same way that The Andre The Giant Battle Royal has been for years, but at least they could have tried to use the match to establish a young deserving star.

Unfortunately for anyone that was hoping for that outcome, they were treated to an overdone entrance by Kid Rock, Diva's from the past being thrown out of the ring before they could even get going and a cross-dressing mid-carder winning the entire thing in what had to be the biggest joke of a match in the history of the company.

In the end, there was just nothing redeemable here!

#4 Chris Jericho Versus Fandango: WrestleMania 29

Fandango, Chris Jericho,
Fandango and Chris Jericho doing battle in the squared circle.

What was the reason behind this decision?

It would be understandable if WWE did this kind of match up with a younger and more deserving talent, but having Fandango defeat Chris Jericho was mind-boggling at best and disastrous at worst. Unfortunately for The WWE Universe, Vince McMahon apparently thought that Fandango was the next big thing at the time.

Why WWE couldn't do this with a more deserving star, like a member of The Shield, Dolph Ziggler, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan or literally anyone else, remains to be seen, but it still has to go down as one of the dumbest decisions of all time. Not only that, the decision was rendered completely useless when Jericho defeated Fandango less than a month later.

In the end, the decision to have Fandango defeat one of the greatest WWE Superstar's of all time was completely ridiculous and a waste of a match for Jericho altogether. Maybe the matchup and subsequent result wouldn't have been that bad if Fandango had a more serious character, but an obnoxious dancer gimmick wasn't really going to go anywhere.

#3 Daniel Bryan versus Sheamus: WrestleMania 28

Sheamus, Daniel Bryan,
Sheamus delivering a devastating Brogue kick to Daniel Bryan.

This match had so much symbolism!

While that symbolism was that Daniel Bryan still wasn't considered by The WWE to be a main event worthy contender, especially after get brogue kicked and losing The World Heavyweight title in less than a minute, it was arguably still the beginning of one of the biggest fan movements in WWE history.

Of course, that fan movement wouldn't culminate until WrestleMania 30, where WWE finally made the decision to put Daniel Bryan in the main event against Batista and Randy Orton, but it was still the start of something big and something different. With that being said, that fact alone doesn't save it from being on this list.

The reason for this is that while the lopsided contest was the beginning of something big for Daniel Bryan, the match should have never gone that way in the first place. In fact, this is probably the only entry on this list that I'm willing to argue would have been just fine if they would have let Daniel Bryan and Sheamus have an actual match!

Daniel Bryan didn't deserve the lopsided loss he received and he definitely didn't deserve to lose his World Heavyweight Championship in the opening bout of the night either. Not only was that a bad look for a the company, especially with all the fan support Bryan had behind him before this, it was also a poor way to showcase The World Heavyweight title as well.

#2 Triple H versus Sting: WrestleMania 31

Sting, Triple H,
Triple H and Sting having a staredown at WrestleMania 31.

Why didn't Sting win this match?

You would think that would be the result after months of Sting battling back and forth with The Authority on Monday Night Raw to vanquish them from power, but for some reason, WWE still decided to render all that meaningless and show once again why WWE was superior to WCW.

What made the moment even worse was the addition of The NWO and DX, which only made the match even more complicated and ultimately stupid. Sure, it might have seemed like a good idea on paper, but once you consider the fact that Sting and The NWO were sworn enemies, you start to realize why this storyline twist fell apart so quickly.

But absolutely nothing was worse then Sting being defeated by Triple H at WrestleMania 31. Not only did it not make sense from a storyline standpoint, especially since Sting was built up as the conquering babyface that could finally end The Authorities reign on WWE, but also because of what a WrestleMania moment would have meant for Stings wrestling career.

#1 Undertaker versus Brock Lesnar: WrestleMania 30

Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, Paul Heyman,

Does anyone else think The Steak shouldn't have ended here?

Not only was this probably one of the worst ways possible that WWE could have ended The Streak, especially since it did literally nothing but make Brock Lesnar the most dominant and hated superstar of all time, it also didn't end the streak the way it deserved to be eventually ended. In fact, it didn't give Undertaker and the streak the respect it deserved.

Going back to the match between The Undertaker and Randy Orton at WrestleMania 21, that would have been a much more dignified way to end Undertaker's streak and give a young rising star the monumental win they need as well. Unfortunately for The Undertaker and The WWE, the biggest win in WrestleMania history went to someone who didn't deserve it.

With that being said, a few F-5's, a rumoured concussion for The Undertaker early on in the match and the streak was over just like that. In the end, the match and the decison wouldn't have really been that bad if it was anyone else besides Brock Lesnar, but it seems like WWE just couldn't resist making the most controversial decision of all time.

In the end, the result of the match took the energy right of the arena for the rest of the show and even worse, showed fans what WWE really thought of the streak. Sure, it's understandable that The Steak had to end sometime and WWE was running out of time to do it in a legitimate way, but why give the win to someone who could literally do nothing with it?
