By the time WrestleMania 29 rolled around, CM Punk had lost the WWE title and was a full-fledged heel. He immediately set his sights on The Undertaker and a match was set for WrestleMania.

The Undertaker's manager Paul Bearer had recently passed away. Punk mocked Bearer's death during the angle, an act which included Punk stealing Bearer's trademark urn, and taunting The Undertaker with it. At WrestleMania, The Deadman defeated Punk and took back the urn.

The Bragging Rights 2009 PPV saw Batista turn heel by attacking his longtime friend Rey Mysterio, after The Animal lost a Fatal Four-Way match for the World title. The two met at Survivor Series 2009, where Batista hit three Batista Bombs on Mysterio, forcing the referee to stop the match.

On an episode of SmackDown, Mysterio mentioned Eddie Guerrero while trying to reason with Batista. The Animal responded with "Eddie's dead", getting incredible heel heat from the live crowd.

This came in as a shocker to everyone in attendance, considering how close Guerrero and Batista were back during his final days. Batista went on to defeat Mysterio in a Street Fight on SmackDown, but lost a No. 1 contender's match against him for The Undertaker's World title. The feud soon came to an end and Batista set his sights on WWE Champion John Cena.
