The two started to feud after Shawn Michaels eliminated Kurt Angle from the 2005 Royal Rumble match and they then started to wrestle each other. Kurt Angle was furious about the elimination and appeared to devote his life to mocking Shawn Michaels. This was also the time when the iconic song by Angle mocking Michaels’ theme came about. Angle worked alongside Sensational Sherri, promising to hurt ankles.
The feud could have been brilliant, but the match delivered on all cylinders at WrestleMania 21. The two told a brilliant story and Kurt Angle won the match where he made Shawn Michaels tap out with an extreme ankle lock.
