Finn Balor replaced Braun Strowman to face Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble for the Universal title. Strowman was removed from the match after he destroyed WWE Chairman Vince McMahon's car, and Balor, later that night, won a fatal four-way match to earn a chance to face Lesnar.

Balor was also removed from the 30-man Royal Rumble match at the PPV, but there is a possibility that he could make an appearance at the match, after his match against Lesnar.

If that is the case, it would mean that Balor had lost the match earlier that night and would probably be battered and bruised, and not at his best.
That is a story WWE can use to show Balor's courage and determination to get another title shot, but it could also work against him as he may face another defeat at a big PPV.
We would rather WWE tell a story of how Balor was put down by The Beast after putting on a valiant effort.
