The Queen of Harts had a memorable run in 2017. Natalya opened up the year with a short rivalry against Nikki Bella. Her match with Nikki, at WWE Elimination Chamber, ended in a double count-out.
At WWE Battleground, Natalya won a five-way elimination match, to earn an opportunity for the SmackDown Women's Championship. She then went on to defeat Naomi, at WWE SummerSlam, and became the SmackDown Women's Champion. With this victory, Natalya became the first woman to hold both the Divas Championship and the SmackDown Women's Championship.
Natalya held the title for 86 days, until she dropped the title to Charlotte on the November 14 edition of SmackDown Live.
