3 dream WWE matches for AJ Styles in 2019

The Phenomenal One - AJ Styles
The Phenomenal One - AJ Styles

The Phenomenal One - AJ Styles, is widely regarded as one of the best wrestlers of all time. He has backed this fact by putting on incredible bouts with a wide range of superstars in numerous wrestling promotions all around the globe. The Phenomenal One toiled hard for years, and made a name for himself on the independent scene before he finally arrived in WWE.

Since he made his much anticipated WWE debut at the 2016 Royal Rumble PPV, he has been one of the most prominently featured WWE Superstars. He has proven his naysayers wrong by having a successful run as a main eventer in WWE.

He has feuded with the likes of John Cena, Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Daniel Bryan in the last two years. His contests with John Cena were critically acclaimed, and they helped in cementing his position as a main-eventer in the company. He is already a 2 time WWE Champion on SmackDown Live.

AJ Styles recently dropped the WWE Championship to Daniel Bryan on the SmackDown Live episode before Survivor Series 2018, after holding the title for over a year. He is currently scheduled to face Daniel Bryan in a rematch for the WWE Championship at the upcoming TLC PPV.

Styles is not expected to win the title back in the rematch, and will probably move onto newer challenges after his match with Daniel Bryan at TLC.

AJ Styles has been a member of SmackDown since the brand split in 2016, and has faced almost everyone on the blue brand. So the time may be ideal for him to switch brands and have fresh match-ups with superstars on Raw.

The WWE Universe would love to see The Phenomenal One square off against the likes of Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, and Finn Balor in the near future.

Here are 3 dream matches involving AJ Styles which may take place next year.

Honourable mention

AJ Styles vs Kenny Omega - This is highly improbable, but not impossible

#3 AJ Styles vs Shawn Michaels

Once in lifetime match-up - AJ Styles vs Shawn Michaels

This match was heavily rumored to take place last year, but that did not materialise. Last year Shawn Michaels shut down all the rumours of his potential return to a WWE ring.

Now he has returned to the ring, and competed at the Crown Jewel PPV, therefore it is now again speculated that his dream match with AJ Styles may indeed be a possibility.

A match between two of the greatest wrestlers of their generations - Shawn Michaels and AJ Styles, at The Show Of Immortals next year would definitely blow the roof off the MetLife Stadium.

#2 AJ Styles vs Johnny Gargano

Johnny Gargano
Johnny Gargano

Johnny Gargano is one of the best wrestlers in the world, and arguably the best wrestler on the NXT brand currently. He has had numerous outstanding matches this year with the likes of Andrade 'Cien' Almas, Tommaso Ciampa, and Aleister Black.

His NXT Championship match with Andrade 'Cien' Almas at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia was awarded a 5-star rating by Dave Meltzer. It was the first WWE match to receive the 5-star rating since the epic 2011 Money in the Bank clash between John Cena and CM Punk.

He has lived up to his moniker of Johnny Wrestling by putting on instant classics with Tomasso Ciampa and Aleister Black in the last few months.

Gargano has been a major superstar on the NXT brand for the past one year, so we can expect him to make his main roster debut next year. A match between two in-ring generals like AJ Styles and Johnny Gargano would sure be a sight to behold for the WWE Universe.

#1 AJ Styles vs Seth Rollins

This is one of the most anticipated main roster matches yet to happen in the WWE. AJ Styles and Seth Rollins have managed to escape each other since 2016, as both have been on different brands for the last two years.

AJ Styles has accomplished almost everything on SmackDown, so he is expected to jump ship to the red brand in the near future. The absence of Roman Reigns might also force the WWE to transfer AJ Styles to the flagship show.

A potential AJ Styles feud with The Architect over the Universal Championship on Raw would enhance the prestige of the red belt. The two superstars could burn it down in the ring, and in the process legitimise the Universal Championship which has been held hostage by Brock Lesnar for much of the last two years.
