Calling out the locker room of SmackDown in his promo, Sheamus mentioned three names from the Blue Brand, and Shorty G was one of them, making him an obvious choice to face the former WWE Champion. Shorty G, previously known as Chad Gable, has become one of the top babyfaces of the Blue Brand, owing to his brilliant performance in the King of the Ring tournament. Participating in the King of the Ring tournament, Shorty G surprised everyone by reaching the final falling at the final hurdle against King Corbin.
Since his rivalry with Corbin, Shorty G hasn't had a proper opponent, yet he was part two gigantic tag-team matches in the last two pay-per-views. While he represented Team Hogan at Crown Jewel, he was also one of the five members to represent Team SmackDown at Survivor Series.
