In 2004, Mick Foley had made a comeback to WWE and was having a few with then-rookie Randy Orton.

Their rivalry had been building up, with Randy Orton provoking the legend to return to the ring. When the two finally did meet up, it was to be in one of the most brutal matches in both men's career. For Mick Foley, he is hardly ever in a match where he is not severely risking real injury to himself. For Orton too, it was the first time that the audience was about to see his vicious streak.

The two men brutalized each other with the Intercontinental Title on the line. Foley hit Orton between the legs with a barbwire wrapped bat and then performed a leg drop on it. With steel chairs, and the barbed wire bat used to open up Orton, the match was brutal.

Like any good hardcore match, this one had thumbtacks and Foley used them to great effect. He countered Orton's RKO attempt and threw the Viper onto the tacks. He used the barbed wire wrapped table, which opened up Orton's back as well, with the Viper bleeding buckets.

The match would go onto the stage area as well, where the violence only increased. Randy won in the end after he was able to hit a sudden RKO that brought the proceedings to an end.
