Did the build-up to WWE Evolution live to its hype?

What really comes off as underwhelming is that the road to WWE Evolution has been constantly overshadowed by several events completely unrelated to the PPV itself.

#1 The Crown Jewel/Saudi Arabia controversy: It is no secret that WWE has been under public scrutiny in recent times, thanks to their association with Saudi Arabia despite the Jamal Khashoggi murder. Because of this controversy, WWE's side by side buildup to a pay-per-view relating to equal representation for women has been completely overshadowed.

#2 The buildup for Crown Jewel itself: WWE's excessive focus on storylines for Crown Jewel, one week before WWE Evolution, was not a smart decision. Instead of focusing more on a historic event, WWE decided to still cater increasingly more towards a Pay-Per-View that is already surrounded by controversy.

#3 Roman Reigns' unfortunate announcement: It was a sad day, and a sad week for Professional Wrestling indeed.

Therefore, after all the roadblocks heading into WWE Evolution, one can only hope that the pay-per-view itself lives up to its 'historic' tag.

To be fair, the pay-per-view's quality will be the only factor deciding whether it was a success or not.
