Before her most recent title reign as SmackDown Women's champion, Becky Lynch had a previous reign with the big belt. However, most don't remember it, because at the time Becky Lynch was not experiencing the dizzying heights of popularity she is now.

She wasn't unpopular; Lynch had plenty of cheers, but now the entire audience lights up for her in a way that hasn't really been seen since the Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Certainly, John Cena could never unite an audience behind him as Becky Lynch has done.

For these and many other reasons, Becky Lynch simply does not NEED the women's championship to be the top star.

Even during Austin's time, he wasn't always the WWE champion; sometimes he was pursuing the belt, or engaged in a more personal feud. He didn't need the title to be the top star in the company, and neither does Lynch.
