3 reasons why the Shield’s reunion could fail this time

The Shield reunited this week
The Shield reunited this week

This week the WWE teased another reunion by The Shield when Roman Reigns asked Seth Rollins that he want to see this band one last time. Rollins took some time to think and eventually agreed. Dean Ambrose then came to address things but he got attacked by Elias.

Reigns and Rollins tried to help him but The Lunatic Fringe denied taking their assistance. But eventually, the group reunited when Reigns and Rollins got attacked by McIntyre, Corbin, and Lashley.

Even though The Shield has been one of the best creations of WWE, it isn't the same anymore. When the group debuted in 2012, every member was new to the WWE Universe but now, we all are familiar with them. WWE already reunited the group two times earlier and unfortunately, both of them failed miserably. And, here are 3 reasons why I think The Shield’s reunion is likely to fail this time as well.

#3 Seth Rollins will win the Universal Championship at WrestleMania

We want Rollins to win at 'Mania
We want Rollins to win at 'Mania

I don’t have any problem when Rollins won the Royal Rumble match this year and I want him to slay The Beast at ‘Mania. What I'm trying to say is that if Rollins wins the title at WrestleMania, he can't focus on this alliance.

It happened with Roman Reigns and I’m sure it will happen with Rollins as well. The Kingslayer promised that he would bring the title to Raw every week when he wins it and in that case, The Shield’s reunion may not work. Rollins will have his own feuds that will make it hard for him to focus on his band.

The reason why I put Rollins’ name in this heading is that he has been an essential part of this group. When Reigns won the championship, he got busy in his own feuds and that was okay. At least we had Rollins and Ambrose who were putting great matches together. But, if he works without The Shield, it will make this reunion a failure.

#2 No worthy opponents

The tag team division deserves better
The tag team division deserves better

Even though the tag team division has improved a lot in past some time, it still isn't the best thing in the WWE. There was a time when he had impressive teams like DX, The Hart Foundation, Brothers Of Destruction and Edge and Christian. However, now it seems like the WWE isn't focusing on this division a lot.

Although we still have some amazing teams like The New Day, The Hardy Boyz and The Revival, they aren't getting their moment. The Shield, obviously, is a tag team and after their reunion, they will need to have an opponent and they currently are feuding with The Corbin Alliance. However, no one is seemingly interested in this feud as we have already seen their feud before.

The Shield’s match at Elimination Chamber 2014 against The Wyatt Family is one of their best matches so far and unless the WWE decides to bring/create these types of tag teams on their roster, this reunion will seem underwhelming. I, personally, don’t want The Shield to feud with The Corbin Alliance and I think that the WWE Universe thinks the same.

#1 There’s no need to reunite this group every single year

We have already seen a ton of reunions
We have already seen a ton of reunions

The Shield reunited in 2012 with Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. That time, none of these wrestlers were popular among the WWE Universe. However, the next two years changed everything for this alliance as they became one of the most liked tag teams of all time.

Then, the worst thing happened to this group and it was the breakup. Rollins broke the group for Triple H and I must say that it was a blessing in disguise. Since then, all three members of this group became successful and now can flourish on their own.

Most think that The Shield reunited after 3 years in 2017 but it isn't the truth. In 2015, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose worked together as a team on many occasions. The following year, Rollins and Reigns worked together and in this way, the group never got broken up. Yet again, we got to see two more reunions in 2017 and 2018 (and now in 2019).

What I'm trying to say is that we don’t need a Shield reunion every single year. The first time they got together, fans were extremely happy. But the next time it happened, their excitement got reduced a bit.

And while this year the fans have shown their excitement, it is mainly due to Roman Reigns' return and it might soon fade away.
